G2 defeat Heroic; secure playoff spot in Montpellier

G2 will be playing in front of their home crowd as they defeated HEROIC 2-0 (16-3 Vertigo, Dust2 16-11) and advance to the playoffs at the ESL Pro League S9 Finals.

G2 managed the perfect start on the T side of Vertigo, HEROIC's map pick, controlling the game on the offense and finding success with their site hits. It was 7-0 for the Frenchmen when HEROIC finally got on the board thanks to Adam "⁠friberg⁠" Friberg's double kill with a Deagle.

The Danish team only managed two rounds in a row before, in a crucial round, Audric "⁠JACKZ⁠" Jug secured an ace to extend his team's lead. Another pivotal moment was when Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub and Lucas "⁠Lucky⁠" Chastang turned around a 2v4 on A, leading to G2 finishing the half with a gigantic, 12-3 lead.

In the second half pistol HEROIC got two entries on B, but couldn't convert the all-important round, seeing G2 go up 15-3. The following round was a back-and-forth one, but ended with kennyS clutching the 1v1 against Patrick "⁠es3tag⁠" Hansen, concluding Vertigo and moving the action to Dust2.

es3tag's triple kill enabled the A site retake and got HEROIC the initial round on the CT side of Dust2, but G2 replied instantly with a force buy, grabbing the early momentum. As the score was 7-1, Niels Christian "⁠NaToSaphiX⁠" Sillassen locked down B with the AWP, helping his side bring back the scoreline to 8-4.

Late in the round, G2 got back on track with some fast strats, finishing the half with three successful rounds, 11-4. HEROIC won the second pistol and converted it this time around, but G2 bounced back with the third round buy and went up 13-6 following Lucky's anti-eco ace.

With their backs against the wall, HEROIC started finding success, only losing one of the next five rounds, capitalizing on G2's struggling economy during that period. (14-11) However, that was all she wrote for the Danes, as they lost the following two rounds, including a 3v2 in the last one, to go down to the Frenchmen 16-11, 2-0 for the series.
