Cloud9 revamp roster with four new players

Cloud9 have revealed their new roster, featuring four new players, including Damian "⁠daps⁠" Steele and Oscar "⁠mixwell⁠" Cañellas, who will team up with Timothy "⁠autimatic⁠" Ta.

Cloud9 announced their new starting five on "The 9s", the organization’s live stream, bringing in daps, mixwell, Kenneth "⁠koosta⁠" Suen, and Tyson "⁠TenZ⁠" Ngo to join the only remaining player from the previous lineup, autimatic.

The four new players will replace Maikil "⁠Golden⁠" Selim, René "⁠cajunb⁠" Borg, Daniel "⁠vice⁠" Kim, and William "⁠RUSH⁠" Wierzba as Cloud9 look to shake things up after the squad failed to qualify for the StarLadder Major's Americas Minor—following losses to The Quest and New Identity—, and finished in 9-12th place at the ESL Pro League Season 9 Finals with a single victory over DETONA and losses at the hands of Astralis and G2.

daps and mixwell will reunite in Cloud9

This move will see daps and mixwell reunite after the duo played together under the OpTic banner in 2016 and attended the ESL One Cologne Major that same year. koosta was without a team after being released by Ghost, while TenZ acted as a stand-in for teams like ATK and Lazarus after leaving Bad News Bears, even helping the latter to qualify for the Americas Minor.

James "⁠JamezIRL⁠" Macaulay, formerly of Ghost, has been hired to coach the team and will have the backing of Soham "⁠valens⁠" Chowdhury, who will still be active in the squad's practices and review sessions.

Two of the former players are no longer bound to the Cloud9 organization, vice and cajunb, while Golden has been loaned out to Ninjas in Pyjamas for the Berlin Major and RUSH has been placed on the bench.

valens said the following about the need to rebuild on "The 9s":

"After the Major we never tried to rebuild completely, we just tried to slot in players and figure out if we can bring that kind of magic form back, we were just trying to slot in players after Stew and tarik left and Skadoodle retired, hoping to have another run when we just needed to rebuild."

Don't worry our boy will be revived now. He's now a rifler. Rifler auti = 85% win rate. He's on par with twistzzz and elige on aim wise but I doubt he can use SG/AUG better than Elige.

Where the hell are people getting the idea that they will all of a sudden be a top 10 team? Koosta? This guy was cut from Liquid after 4 months and only recently, more than two years later, has he played in any significant tournament. He's a tier 4 player. Mixwell? A complete washup who has been tiddling around in tier 10 cs for the last two years over in Spain. Has always been overrated. Tier 3/4. TenZ? Completely unproven. daps? Potentially NA's best IGL, top 3 for sure. He is a master at molding rosters into calculated cs and using everyone to their potential. That said, it's much easier to do with young and hungry players like over in NRG. There's a ton of experience now in this lineup, just not top level CS experience. His lack of firepower will be more noticeable in this lineup. Still a tier 2/3 player on his own. This lineup will likely suck. Can't believe Autimatic threw away his entire career for the organization. Must've became a giant pothead, content with his accomplishments and fine with just skating by. It's a comfy lifestyle out there I'll give him that...

I don't really agree with your assessments of koosta and mix well (koosta is more tier 3, and mixwell was trying to grow the Spanish scene), but at the same time I don't think their additions to the team is going to make them top 5 superstars right away. What you're saying about tenz is exactly what people said about Stewie, and look at how he turned out. Tenz has a lot of potential to be a star player, I think the other more experienced players on this roster will develop him really well. I agree about koosta, he's a bit of a risk. Very inconsistent and whiffs too much. Still, he has his good moments. He could work out if he has good consistency. I think that's why they've kept rush on the bench, so he can take back his place if one of these players doesn't work out. I don't think mixwell was playing for movistar riders because he wasn't good enough for other teams, that was his own personal project in the name of the Spanish scene. He's a pretty good player, and I think he's a better awper than koosta. Autimatic, Mixwell and Tenz could all be solid riflers, koosta can awp if he's performing, and daps is a top NA igl to lead them all. And they still have rush to fall back on if something doesn't work (I'm actually pretty sad to see him go). This roster definitely has potential. I'm not saying they're going to suddenly become top 10 but this is C9s most promising lineup since kio and flusha were on the team.

In 2020 they will change either Koosta or Tenz for Tarik (because NRG will drop but Tarik will perform well). After Tarik is there for a month they will take in ImaPet as a Coach (they change coach too often anyway). They will hit the best results C9 ever had (Boston major excluded) and then Daps will be replaced by Stanislaw. Stanislaw will get far in the first 3 events and then the team will just stagnate to a rank 32 spot and stay there.

Who is running the c9 CSGO division? It's almost like they are purposely trying to build bad teams. I don't see this team going anywhere. They might be a solid top20 team with an occasional upset against top 10 teams. My only hope for them is that daps has a track record of building good teams so maybe he can work his magic again.

I agree that WARDELL would be a huge upgrade. Koosta has never really shown anything worthy of being on a top team. I don't know much about TenZ so can't speak on him. Mixwell has potential but has never impressed me all that much. He had some amazing times on Optic a couple years ago but hasn't done much since. Autimatic is a tier 1 player for sure, and daps is a proven igl. As a whole, I don't have high hopes for this team. I wouldn't mind being wrong because I don't want them to fail, and it is always nice to have more teams mixing things up at the top. Time will tell...

I am geussing you have not observed the NA scene that closely, Tenz is the current hottest rising star out of the NA scene that is not part of a major team. He has been playing as the most wanted stand-in for a lot of teams in NA. Getting Wardell has a high buyout and they want mixwell, since he can awp and has experience with playing with daps. To C9, having both the benefits of having mixwell, compared to Wardell with his high skill level and high buyout price.

Mixwell has a killer LAN rating over the last two years and while he's been playing at a lower level it's against' the 'far superior' European competition. He''s going to frag from the beginning. Koosta and Tenz will likely make up their entry pack. Tenz is one of those children like Sergei, Brollan or Twistzz who's lightning quick. A big part of this depends on his development. Koosta as a utility piece isn't bad. No one watched Ghost play. With Daps we know what we are getting. Autimatic is a top 20 player. I'd prefer he goes back to the wing rather then AWP but I think he might still be AWPing.

Daps is a tactical genius and is very good at turning teams into title contenders and developing young talent. Just look at Ethan and Brehze. TenZ is probably NA's most promising fpl talent other than oBo and carried his tier 3 NA teams and ATK. Koosta is questionable, but he played pretty well on ghost as a support/secondary awper. I think it will turn out fine but only time will tell

Koosta is one of the most up-and-down players in CS:GO, and he's often kinda shit in the late stages of a tournament. He doesn't seem to do well in pressured situations from what I've seen of him. Also, Wardell is honestly better than Mixwell, but Mixwell could also potentially gel with this team better, 'cause he's played together with some of these guys in the past, and done it successfully.

Yeah, from what I recall from Ghost, he played pretty good, but I am more baffled about the new positions. Since, if I take it theoretically, w ehave here about 3 secondary awpers in Auti, Koosta and Mixwell. Auti main awped for C9, right, but I think that is wasting the other 2 to not awp. Mixwell is not a stellar rifler, though he doesn't like to primary AWP too. Koosta is decent awper, but not the bet either. I don't like the situation at all. I would probably let AWP Koosta or Mixwell, Auti can rifle great, but it doesn't feel they have a great primary awp then. Wardell would solve that. That is the issue for me, though I generally agree with you.

I'm skeptical about koosta, because he is legitimately one of the most fundamentally flawed pro players in the scene, but I'm really excited to see Mixwell again, and I hope Tenz does well and blossoms like Stewie did when he initially broke into the pro scene, as opposed to being one of those pug gods who only do well in tier 4 NA and below. In any case, this honestly can't be worse than the line-up Cloud9 had before, and I'm just happy to see Mixwell play again, and daps to get a chance this quickly after being kicked from NRG. I hope autimatic can finally get SOME fuckin' decent support from his teammates, because he's close to being as tragic of a wasted bundle of talent as S1mple is.

CajunB is the same kind of player, experienced, smart, fits in almost every role you put him up and a lot more consistent. Mixwell should be the awper as he was on Movistar Riders for the last year. I find that hard to believe, beyond what he did on OpTic he was always an awper. He had almost full control of MR but still never brought an awper to the team. I just hope they don't go that way and C9 becomes a trial subject again (I wouldn't be surprised if management brought an awper but auti doesn't want to give up on it), Mixwell AWP-Auti rifle is a lot better combo than the other way around.
