Liquid beat NRG; secure semi-final spot in Cologne

Liquid defeated NRG 2-0 to advance to the semi-finals at ESL One Cologne, with the latter team set to begin their playoff campaign in the quarter finals.

Liquid and NRG began the Group A upper bracket final on Nuke, where the T-sided NRG won the pistol round thanks to Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov's quad kill in a 3vs5. Liquid responded swiftly, taking the following three to lead 3-1. After teams traded blows for four rounds, NRG went on a four-round streak to lead 7-5.

Liquid reclaimed the lead before halftime, finishing the first half 8-7 ahead. After Liquid picked up the second pistol victory, NRG went on a three-round run to reach double-digits (10-9). Nick "nitr0" Cannella and Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski equalized a round later as they won a 2vs4. Liquid took charge on offense and eventually closed out the map with a 16-12 final scoreline.

Liquid are through to the semis

The second map, Inferno, commenced with Liquid winning the pistol round on the T-side. NRG secured the first weapon round victory thanks to Ethan "Ethan" Arnold's 1vs2 victory but lost the following five rounds to trail 8-1. Tarik "tarik" Celik and company recouped as well as they could, taking five of the last six rounds in the first half to stay within three rounds of Liquid (9-6).

Despite losing the first two rounds to kick off the second half, NRG won an eco in the 18th round to get their seventh (11-7). NRG came back and had two chances to wrap up the map but Liquid managed to take the game to overtime. Liquid won 22-20 in second overtime, taking the series 2-0 and advancing to the semi-finals in Cologne. NRG will be playing in the quarter-finals to begin their playoff run.

Elige is carrying 3rd event straight. Twistzz is just up and down, its quite annoying

Just because his stats are better than everyone else’s doesn’t mean he’s carrying. If you watch the games or know anything about cs, then you’ll know it’s a team game. If every round stewie flashes elige in and he gets 2 kills because of it, that doesn’t mean he’s carrying.

Omg, you are so smart, wow, noticed the flashes! And I dont mean s1mple way of carrying, rather just the most impact and most consistency, while others whiffing their shots. Same with nitr0, he is delivering when it matters.

You actually a dumbass if you think elige is carrying. There was many rounds in that game where stewie or naf would make a selfless play to win the round. It affects there stats negatively, but there not playing for stats, there playing for the win. I swear so many people focus too much on stats.

+1 Also, think about this. Had S1mple just taken the free kill on Nitro at 15-11 and overpass goes the way it went...we're having a different discussion. Glad to see Elige having another good tourney though.

Twistzz takes all the spots no one else wants. Chamged all his spots after stewie2k joined. Twistzz is integral to team success w/o dropping huge numbers all the time. What they are doing is working.

Yeah, I think most of you guys didnt understand what I was saying. Im still happy since they win. Just the inconsistency is a problem sometimes. Which positions of twistzz were given to stewie though? Iirc twistzz was playin pit on inferno and upper bomb site on nuke before stew. On mirage they tried to put him at B site but it didnt work out so they brought him back to A. Overpass he was always a B defender as well. Dust2 always at long/pit. So dont see any changes at all, maybe forgetting something.
