coldzera requests MIBR benching as he seeks new challenge

Marcelo "⁠coldzera⁠" David has informed MIBR of his intention to leave the team and take up a new challenge elsewhere, HLTV.org has learned.

A source close to the team has told HLTV.org that the Brazilian star will play two more events with the squad, BLAST Pro Series Los Angeles and IEM Chicago, before stepping down from the active line-up and being placed on the bench.

This means that coldzera will not be at the StarLadder Major with MIBR, who will most likely have to field coach Wilton "⁠zews⁠" Prado as a stand-in as the roster lock for the event came into effect on June 24.

The same source said that coldzera has become increasingly frustrated with the squad's poor results, with MIBR having yet to reach a LAN final in 2019. The team allegedly continues to be rocked by deep internal issues that the recent removal of João "⁠felps⁠" Vasconcellos was not able to solve.

MIBR had in ESL One Cologne their first event with Lucas "⁠LUCAS1⁠" Teles following his loan signing from Luminosity. The Brazilians crashed out of the German event in 13th-16th place after suffering defeats to fnatic and BIG.

And these internal issues appear to have taken a toll on coldzera's game and confidence. The 24-year-old's 1.04 rating at the ESL Pro League Season 9 Finals and at ESL One Cologne was a far cry from his usual numbers as he was averaging a 1.16 rating at Big Events this year leading up to those two tournaments.

This is not the first time that coldzera has sought a move away from the team. In his 2018 top 20 player of the year feature, he revealed that he had entertained the idea of looking for a new challenge when Epitacio "⁠TACO⁠" de Melo left SK, in March 2018. Exactly a year ago, he reportedly considered leaving MIBR due to differences with Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo and Fernando "⁠fer⁠" Alvarenga about how the team should be run. On both occasions, his high release clause proved to be a major hindrance.

With coldzera's benching, MIBR will be left with the following line-up after IEM Chicago:

The end of an era but i can really understand his decision, MIBR looked really lost in the last few months. Maybe he can join a lower tier brazilian team like LG or INTZ?! I mean coldzera really isn't a good player anymore but i think he can do well in the lower tier BR scene. Whats really weird to me is that he won't play the major with them and MIBR will play with zews wtf. Thats a really unfair thing to do.

Believe me, MiBR's buyout is lower than FURIA's, although Coldzera is the highest one, I believe they negotiated with their agents to not use the Pelé law for buyouts which consists in selling any Brazilian athlete for 2.000 times his salary at max for national organisations and for international organizations there's no limit. FURIA kept their salaries low so the buyout wouldn't be that absurd. So a player with a salary of 10k can be sold for 20 millions, because is their agent who owns him not the organisation and for Football it works. But in eSports, I think Niko and Simple are around 1m to 1.5m. And a FURIA player 1m to 2m each.

What end of an era? While playing under MIBR the highest achievements they have gotten is 2 times 3rd place at majors and a 2nd place at an ECS final. While they played under LG and later SK, you could've said that was the end of an era and that they affected the scene, but thats long gone..

Unfair how? As the article says he has had differences with fallen and fer before and the team has been struggling for so long now. It's really hard to be on a negative trend that long and I totally understand his decision. They lost 16-0 when they played with a stand-in, they won't perform well when 1 player is bringing them down You want facts I'll give you facts Taco's rating is the one of the lowest in pro scene (0.92) - worst than Zeus (0.94) and karrigan (1.00) When taco was playing for liquid they didn't beat astralis once, they won only one tier 1 tournament (in a period of 8 months), liquid was astralis' dog. After taco's kick, liquid reached top 1 and now dominates astralis, meanwhile mibr from top 7 (with Stewie) is now top 12 with taco If you think l lied about anything, check liquipedia.net/counterstrike/Team_Liquid.. He played for them from 2018/04 until 2018/12 I don't know if you watch mibr games but here more facts to consider: the dude can't kill, can't hold bombsites, can't do the entryfragger role (he's always lurking or being support). I don't know exactly what he's doing. Things can get worst; his rating at big events is 0.91. Mibr will never be top 1 again if they don't kick taco, it's impossible to any team be top 1 if taco is playing for them.

The fact that your entire argument is based around his rating when hes literally used as a meat shield for coldzera and plays the hardest spots on CT shows you have no idea how roles work in CS. "Its impossible form any team to be top1" You're aware hes a 2x major winner and was part of the dominant lg/sk lineup right? And he made liquid much better when he joined. The werent even competing for titles then. The reason Liquid is even better now with stewie is because the cored stayed together for so long and built on what they had, if taco was still on Liquid theyd be top1.

Yeah he won two majors 3 YEARS ago. He was part of a dominant SK that could be even more dominant without him. Pronax, dosia, fifflaren are major winners, where are they now? Pronax at least was a good IGL, but what's the excuse for taco's horrible skills? Being major winner doesn't mean you're good, Cold, fer and fallen can't carry him like before, mibr need changes Explain then why even in liquid his ratings were bad, did liquid used him as meat shield too? Also, hardest spots on CT? There's no such thing dude. All pros can deal with any position in CT side, l mean, any other pro could do his job at "hard spots" and get better results, that's what consistent players do You say l have no idea how roles work in CS, l say you have no idea how CS works at all

Why do you keep bringing up rating like its end all be all? Taco is a great teammate, very sacrificial, and knows how to enable his stars. He has excellent comms and knows how to play as part of a system. Liquid loved him as a teammate they didnt want him to to back to MiBR but taco and zews insisted. Theres a reason players want taco on their team.

Ratings is what matters in the end fam, no one in top 3 has rating below 1.0 He's not the only one who is "sacrificial, great teammate, can play in a system", actually almost every pro player have these characteristics. Liquid don't have taco yet twistzz and elige still shine Vitality don't have taco yet zywhoo shines Astralis don't have taco yet device shines Mibr have taco and no one shine Love don't make good players and in the end they probably kicked him for poor performance

Its part of what matters, but not everything. No one in the top 3 is below 1.0? Edward was all last year with Zeus (still is) rpk and Alex are. Liquid is the most skilled roster in CSGO history, if you have to use them as an example then you've lost they're an outlier same with Astralis, best roster ever created. Vitality dont have taco no, they have other supportive players like rpk and Alex. Device has xyp9x who is the best support player in the world. The fact that the only improvements you can think of for taco are players on top 3 teams says a lot. Hes extremely valuable and like I said, theres a reason players want him on their team, there arent many players with skillsets like his that transcend stats.

No you havent, because you've completely ignored the fact that personality, temperament and communication are very important aspects when on a team, especially at the highest levels and taco excels there. Lol so then which tournaments have been tier 1? Name all the tournaments you consider to be tier 1 so far this year. Hen1 and kng are AWPers if fallen moves to a supportive role that could work, I'd like to see that. Boltz has been tried. Steel could work but hes not a better fragger than taco his stats were worse than tacos were when he was on Liquid and Fallen and him would probably conflict on ideas since Fallen is very demanding.

You didn't prove much. Many of the players you named have ego/personality issues like kng and hen1. If you cant see how personality and temperament are important in a work environment in which you also get paid more based revenue then I dont know what to tell you. If you have toxic players on your team it's harder to be successful and you will garner less fans. Cold fer fallen boltz lucas1 would not be a tier 1 contender at all you're completely delusional. kscerato is perfect fit, he plays same positions as cold and has same passive playstyle, but on T side he actually doesnt bait and is impactful if they cant buy him out i'd say hen1, he is insane, fallen could go full support, hen1 will outshine him with the awp kNg is 3rd option cuz of the conflict with the org.. maybe they will change their mind..

They are not happy with their results and are thrashing round to resolve it. They used to be good and now they are not. The trouble is that they DO NOT KNOW WHY. (The same can be said for Faze). The reason that they fail is because the other teams around them have improved. Roster changes do not help because they do not address the root cause of the problem. They have to solve their problems by addressing the problems. Just as with any medical (or motor vehicle, or whatever) problem there must first be a diagnosis. Looking at your poor results is the symptom, not the disease. It is irrelevant and distracting. They have to identify the symptom and only then can they address it. They also need to be constructive and do all of the following (1) put your ego in back pocket. Seriously leave it alone. You are not important, this is a PC game not surgery. (2) Listen very hard and actually understand what the others are saying. (3) Improve individual skill by HARD WORK. Lots of practice. (4) Improve teamwork by HARD WORK. Lots of practice. (5) Learn from the other teams. Again HARD WORK. (6) Build physical strength - exercise. Consider a Ketogenic diet, make sure you do not drink to excess and make sure youisleep well. (7) Build mental strength. Understand that mistakes are ok. They are more than ok - they are normal. And your betters make them too. Develop an understanding of luck and how it can be manipulated. Learn to play backgammon and learn what it can teach you about calculated risk. Develop an understanding about playing (a) against the OPPONENT (b) playing the POSITION (c) playing against YOURSELF. (8) Above all accept that life is difficult and DISCIPLINE as the answer.

That's not a bad decision after all. MIBR tried a lot of changes on the roster, but the core was always untouched by it. Maybe bringing some fresh Brazilian talent will do good to them. Probably when we think on "MIBR problem", Coldzera might be the last of our minds, but I don't think so. I really don't feel like his gameplay fits nice on MIBR anymore. Let's see what's coming on for us.

Gotta agree with you on that, but i think he needs a solid team go bananas again like he once did and MiBR/SK lineup changes have been nothing but disapointed. For 2 straight years they were just kicking that one player that wasn't part of the "panelinha". MiBR needs a whole new reconstruction to be at least a consistent top4 contestent in tournaments. Fallen's system is outdated and they definitely need new blood. Like 2 unexperienced players with lots of hunger to win tournaments. It's a bet i know, but it's much better than just cicling a 5th player all the time.

No its not. He is right to be upset. The team put immense hype over the MIBR tag, they tried americans, tried old lineup, tried changing roles, everything. And still can't win... Since 2018 they can't win. Also, cold is the only player to still drop some AVERAGE numbers above 1.0 rating, rest is utter crap and playing like tier3. Dont blame coldzera now. They team is a sinking ship, why would he continue? HE WANTS MORE, not like fallen fer and taco, these 3 are ok with everything. cold is not.

Guys like him play to make their own mark on these tournaments, they play for the team too. I guess he's not leaving, frustration is fine, he must've over spoken. If it's true, His benching can also mean he doesn't respect all his teammates [Lucas1 recently joined and he should give the guy a chance, he parties alot ik but he practices 10+ hours and he's really comitted] Coldzera looks happy in MiBR, to me, behind the scenes, maybe something else happens but to me, he's just embarrassed that he had to finish last in Cologne and spoke it out. He won't be joining FaZe or something, he might do it after the Major only. He's used to winning and getting MVPs, I expect people of the same level to be this frustrated

FalleN is not leaving. He was talking on his stream (in our language) after the defeats on Cologne about how he's not giving up after the defeats. He said that if he had given up when people said they couldn't win a Major they will never be there in first place, and they will keep trying to improve and get back to the top. Cold is leaving because he's kinda toxic, he doesn't take defeats very well, so he's probably trying to get some new chance at a new team. Also the real core is FalleN and Fer, and even Lucas1. They've been playing together since 1.6, and FalleN and Fer since Crossfire, so Cold was kinda expendable, considering he doesn't have half of the history with the guys.
