MIBR have confirmed that Marcelo "⁠coldzera⁠" David has been moved to the bench with immediate effect.

Team coach Wilton "⁠zews⁠" Prado will play at BLAST Pro Series Los Angeles and IEM Chicago, with the team still analyzing their options regarding the line-up for the StarLadder Major.

The news follows a transfer request submitted by coldzera in the wake of MIBR's elimination from ESL One Cologne in 13th-16th place, as HLTV.org revealed on Sunday morning. The Brazilian prodigy had grown increasingly frustrated with the team's run of poor results and wants a new challenge where he can compete for titles again and have the sort of influential role that earned him the title of the best player in the world of 2016 and 2017.

coldzera moved to the bench after requesting to leave

In a statement, zews confirmed that coldzera proposed to play the last two tournaments of the season and also the StarLadder Major, an offer that the team declined as they want to start planning for life without him right away.

"We have come to the conclusion that the moment we need to live is one of rebuilding for the future and the earlier we start, the better," the Brazilian coach said.

"Not only for our starting lineup but for our team culture. Management, coach and players need to all be aligned in order for us to well represent not only MIBR, but everything and everyone that entails in its legacy.

"This is our mission statement moving forward. The collective is above any individuality or necessity that goes against it."

coldzera has been on MIBR's books since June 2018, when he and the rest of the SK squad were acquired by Immortals, who had purchased the rights to the legendary brand from founder Paulo Velloso. Since leaving SK, the team have won just one LAN tournament, the ZOTAC Cup Masters, and reached the finals of two Big Events, BLAST Pro Series Istanbul and the ECS Season 6 Finals, losing the title to Astralis on both occasions.

Tension within the MIBR camp had been mounting for some time as results have been far from promising since the return to a full Brazilian lineup. This year, the team have yet to reach a LAN final and have just one semi-final run to their name, at IEM Sydney. The arrival of Lucas "⁠LUCAS1⁠" Teles as a replacement for João "⁠felps⁠" Vasconcellos revived hopes among MIBR fans, but coldzera decided to step down from the roster after just one event with the Luminosity-owned player.

The news leaves MIBR with just three permanent players in the active lineup as LUCAS1 is on a loan stint with the team. They have long been admirers of Yuri "⁠yuurih⁠" Santos and Kaike "⁠KSCERATO⁠" Cerato but have so far failed in their efforts to lure the young duo away from FURIA, who recently agreed to five-year contract extensions with their players.

It remains unclear who MIBR will field as their fifth player at the StarLadder Major, where they will be playing in the Legends Stage, kicking off August 28. Per the tournament's rules, a team can change a player once the roster lock has come into place only in the event of an emergency.

Losing the team's star player is undoubtedly a heavy blow, but zews is confident that the future will be bright, saying: "We have reinvented ourselves many times before and this will be no different."

After all, this seems to be an end to MIBR era.. Moving from TOP 5 to out of TOP 10. But then again coldzera has some career left according to his age (24.) Although some professiionals have quit after age 25. And also everything this is good to the scene.. :) If you watch the World Rankings a lot of has change recently this year. FURIA, Vitality and new teams CR4ZY, Ancient, Tricked and GamerLegion. Not sure what Coldzera will do.. I see that as a mistake from him "leaving" MIBR at this point. New teams are coming to conquer and try to take a lead. Which is absolutely good for the whole scene.

Coldzera made his move in a bad time. Professional sports evolve with time. CSGO is evolving as well. But many players do not think much in future. When he accepted a 1MM USD clause to leave. He locked himself to the team. But he doesn’t have the mind necessary to overcome a bad moment of the team. You cannot throw the past of victories away. He pushed the team for changes. When fallen though to come international. He did not accepted it well. Stewie let us know with that comment “how mad are you now Cold”? Pretty clear that living and playing with coldzera can be hard. So the team probably felt pushed by him too and probably he was not executing well his play and role also. So after the first event, he probably shocked and pushed more and decided to quit without thinking straight in the consequence to the team and management. It is his EGO taking decisions. No other team, will quit their planning until the Major. Coldzera is doing very similar to Neymar. Who is also trying to quit PSG.
