G2 take down Tricked 2-0 to win Good Game League 2019

G2 won the 2019 edition of the Good Game League after beating Tricked 2-0 in the grand final of the Polish event.

The French team, considered to be the heavy favorites throughout the event, headed into the final brimming with confidence after winning all four maps leading to the match against Tricked. Going into Train, It was clear that Nicolai "⁠HUNDEN⁠" Petersen and co had prepared themselves for the wrath of G2 and managed to take them all the way to overtime before eventually losing in overtime. But then Inferno proved to be much more of a challenge for the Danes as the French side reigned supreme to pick up a much-needed LAN title, their first since DreamHack Masters Malmö 2017.

Tricked had fond memories of their last Train encounter against G2 on Train, in the ESL One New York closed qualifier. Unlike that game, which started with Tricked up 7-0 before G2 answered back, the French side was able to take a 2-0 lead after winning the first pistol round. It was very evident that G2 had done their research and the odds stayed in the CT side's favor for the remainder of the half thanks to pristine shots from the AWP of Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub and early opening duel wins from Audric "⁠JACKZ⁠" Jug. Tricked were able to get very little done on their T-side and found themselves down 5-10 at the half.

An impressive three kills from the USP of Johannes "⁠b0RUP⁠" Borup to start out the second half quickly brought Tricked back into the game, and they were able to win five rounds in a row to tie the score up at 10-10. After a clean 1v2 clutch from HUNDEN, Tricked were up 13-11 and all hope seemed lost for G2. However, they miraculously managed to answer back with a round of their own and the remainder of the map was an all-out brawl between the two sides, fast pace executes from G2 were equally met with clean retakes from Tricked and ultimately led to the game going into over time.

G2 win the Good Game League title

Despite the back and forwardness of the match during the first 30 rounds of the map, G2 overran Tricked during OT and didn't give up a single round, resulting in a 19-15 victory for the French side.

With the second map now underway, G2 yet again found themselves with an early lead. Tricked were unable to keep up with the aggression of François "⁠amanek⁠" Delaunay, who found himself 11 kills after just seven rounds, and in many situations were forced to save in order to try and keep their economy alive. After being down 0-9, Tricked were finally able to find a round of their own thanks to four AWP kills from Lucas "⁠Bubzkji⁠" Andersen. However, they were unable to capitalize off of the young Danish star's hard work and G2 continued winning rounds with little to no effort, cruising to an 11-4 lead.

G2 found themselves the second pistol round of Inferno with ease thanks to quick headshots and a nade kill from Lucas "⁠Lucky⁠" Chastang. The power of the French team proved to be too much for Tricked to handle, and, despite their best efforts, were only able to win three rounds on the T-side. The mistakes that nearly cost G2 the first map were nowhere in sight on map two and they were able to close out the map 16-7.
