Renegades secure New Champions Stage spot over G2

Renegades secured a 2-1 victory against G2, yielding them Legends status and advancement to the New Champions Stage of the StarLadder Major.

The first concluding series of the New Legends Stage saw Renegades take on G2 for a spot in the playoffs of the Major. Affairs commenced on Vertigo, where a USP-S triple kill from Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad ensured the first round for his team. A force buy from G2 in the follower allowed the Frenchmen to extend a lead, but the defensive maintained, equalising at four rounds apiece.

The two teams proceeded to go shoulder-in-shoulder till round 13, where Renegades finally found a break and were able to run away with a 9-6 lead, courtesy of outstanding triple kills from Aaron "AZR" Ward and Justin "jks" Savage in preceding rounds.

Renegades are through to the New Champions Stage of the Major

A repeat of the first pistol round saw jkaem land another triple kill, this time with the Glock, creating space for his team's lead to be furthered. Upon securing rifles, G2 answered in with three consecutive rounds of their own, but struggled to maintain a consistent performance. Renegades accrued rounds, sustaining their lead position, subsequently closing out the map with a 16-11 scoreline, highlighted by an AK-47 quad kill from AZR.

Renegades proceeded to build on the momentum from Vertigo, securing the first three rounds on the defence of map two, Dust2. The lead was short-lived, as G2 went on to equalise and extend their position to four rounds, witnessing a Krieg triple kill by François "amanek" Delaunay. The ensuing game dynamic saw the teams exchange strings of round, where Renegades came out slightly on top, thanks to another triple kill by jkaem, concluding the initial half with an 8-7 lead.

AmaNEk's individual showing on Dust2 was pivotal to G2's success

Upon switching to the defence, G2 immediately equalised, following their pistol round success with a string of four consecutive rounds. The Australian squad managed to secure two rounds of their own, the latter thanks to double kills from Jay "Liazz" Tregillgas and jks, but struggled to keep their foot on the gas pedal, conceding momentum to G2 immediately after. The Frenchmen went on to concede but an additional round in the remainder of the map, closing out their map pick with a 16-11 scoreline, made possible thanks to a closing quad kill from team captain, Richard "shox" Papillon.

The final map, Inferno, kicked off to a three-round lead for Renegades on the offense. G2's first rifle round nearly fell through, but a 2v2 conversion saw the Frenchmen secure their first round on the CT side. While a digit was secured, no long-term follow-up was seen from the squad, as Renegades assumed control of the middle portion of the half, looking at a 6-2 lead, with Liazz contributing by landing a 1v2 clutch in round 7. Only towards the concluding rounds were shox and company managed to claw their way back, evening things out with a 7-8 deficit at half time.

jks topped the scoreboard on Vertigo, posting a 1.47 rating

Despite the momentum loss towards the end of the prior half, Renegades reignited their thirst for victory by accruing a consecutive pistol round off the back of a CZ-75 triple kill from Sean "Gratisfaction" Kaiwai. The Australian squad was broken once rifles were seen in the hands of G2, but only temporarily, as the round leaders followed up with consecutive strings of rounds that subsequently meant map point. Due to a inconsistent performance and general struggles on the offense, G2 were unable to come back from their disadvantage, conceding Inferno 9-16.

He has finally found himself in RNG, they believed in him and he delivered. Kid is a beast, if JKS is having an off map/day liazz can fill that role now.

the thing i have enjoyed with rng this major tbh is liazz is naturally a lurker but jks is the lurker in the team so what they have done is given each player a half of the map, example on dust 2 if rng are going to go A jks lurks around B and mid and Liazz goes with the team but when they decide to go B liazz lurks A or mid and Jks goes with the team. its freed up Liazz nicely and allowed him to play his game style a bit more

idk what azr and kassad did to the players positions and roles but liazz is looking like the liazz who was smashing everyone in aus. Props to them, they did a fantastic job at the bootcamp. Gratata still misses way 2 many shots and im not confident he's good enough but, hey he gets 2 flashy kills and everyone forgets that he missed his previous 10 shots LUL.. Also it looks like Kio will finally rejoin another french line-up. Lucky is a great guy but inconsistent AF.

@MCH streamer called a G2 gave the game. He said he never saw something like was the economical decision. During the gaulês stream in Portuguese they really though very strange the way G2 played as T side on inferno. Strange to see no commentary about it here.

Not strange at all. Easy to say something about match fixing etc. but if people actually consistently watch G2 play, this was nothing out of the ordinary. They love to force buy, and they almost always run out of ideas on T side if they lose 3-4 rounds in a row

At what point will this shox at IGL business stop? His game has stagnated both ways. He can't dominate like he used to, and it's clear that once G2 string a few round losses together, they run completely out of ideas. Those executes towards the end of Inferno were something straight out of MM. His CSGO career is being completely wasted.

If gamerlegion roster stay the same. They will be better than g2 after this major. Unless g2 bring davidp and kio to replace lucky and amanek.

Another disappointing exit for G2, you faced Avangar and Renegades, teams that are not considered as top tier teams, and still managed to lose/choke. Inexcusable performance, in my opinion, they have to rethink their strategy (roles, leading, mental strength etc.).

France Lucas 'Lucky' Chastang 37 - 59 -22 59.4 0.76 France Audric 'JaCkz' Jug 41 - 63 -22 59.5 0.74 what do you expect from nonamers?

All G2 unsucces is shox's fault. He didn't want to play more with apex and NBK. He ruined all G2 squad. The squad since february 2k17 with: shox kennyS apEX NBK boty Was the best squad they had. They were unstoppable in such many tournaments. And now they have Lucky which is playing badly in the most of tournaments they played with this squad. After major they should think about changing Lucky and JaCkz or they can Ocelote should break this team. At least player like Kenny is losing his skill, confidence and career in France. He should look for some international team.

Yeah, that's what happens when shox is your caller, he always destroys his teams.

I consider this sad because it will likely make JKS think this Renegades team has potential and he should stay with the 'boys'. They are ok. I'm not going to say they are terrible. But this guy belongs on a team with at least one other player on his level. He'd be such a perfect fit on C9 with Autimatic. I just hope stuff like making legends isn't the highlight of this guys career. He's got the talent to win trophies and Aussie fans shouldn't be pissed if he does leave.

And JKS's career will be wasted. I'm not a fan of either team so whatever dude.

No cry is free, you probably didnt pick renegades to go through, if you werent affliated with either team in some way you wouldnt be so butthurt

lol. Are you for real dude? JKS is a top 20 player. Australia doesn't have the talent as evidenced by the fact the team is only half Aussie in the first place. It's just an observation. If it offends you then as you said cry is free.

It's only sad because it will convince people they are on the right track. This team has been struggling for relevance for years. Fuck me like how much I gotta spell out of you?

Imagine thinking jks is a top 20 player lmao plugging your swag fantasy. I could have his stats if I only played Australian Chinese Korean and Japanese teams

His LAN and Big Event stats say he's a borderline top 20 player. On the right squad he probably could be.
