Evil Geniuses ease past Cloud9; qualify for ECS S8 Finals

Evil Geniuses took down Cloud9 in the grand final of ECS Season 8 NA Week 3 with a 2-0 scoreline, qualifying for the LAN Finals in November.

The final series of the week started on Train, Cloud9's map pick, with Damian "daps" Steele's men starting on the offense. Tarik "tarik" Celik opened up the fragging with a double and set his team up for success, and Evil Geniuses built on that to go 6-0 up, despite Cloud9 getting quite a few bombs planted. Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov ensured the streak continued with an AWP quad kill, roaming around on the A bombsite, which saw Evil Geniuses only looking stronger as the half progressed.

Timothy "autimatic" Ta's four frags finally got Cloud9 on the board after being 11-0 down, and they followed that up with a B contact play that was also successful. Unfortunately for Cloud9, that was all they managed to put together as Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and co. bounced back, finished the half 13-2 up, added a successful Ivy rush in the pistol and concluded the map 16-2.

Evil Geniuses will be competing in Texas later this year

The action then moved to Inferno, where rounds were frantically traded-back and forth as both teams found success on force-buys. The score was 3-3 when Evil Geniuses started to stabilize on the CT side, with CeRq leading the fragging for his side as they took a 7-3 lead. Kenneth "koosta" Suen did the majority of the work as Cloud9 added their forth following a successful 2v2 clutch on B. Evil Geniuses didn't falter, though, continuing with aggression that got them entry kills and big advantages shortly into the round.

Cloud9 finished the half 11-4 down, secured their first pistol after the switch, but faltered against a force buy which forced them on the back foot again. It was 14-5 before Cloud9 afforded their first full buy on the CT side of Inferno, giving them limited rounds to work with. daps and co. brought it back to 15-9, but eventually faltered to a B split and Evil Geniuses claimed the series, 2-0.

How are they done? They lose against the 3rd best team in the world and you say they’re done? They just beat furia so they have some potential

You are right, it was EG, but it's not about this specific match. Where does C9 go from here? Such an org cannot be satisfied with being a #40 team and as it seems now they will never get to the top

Exactly. An ocasional win against good teams while constantly losing to tier 2 or tier 3 team is not decent. I don't know why they are still performing so bad since they have some individual talent in this line-up, but the brief international line-up with Flusha and Kioshima was much, much better than this one.

That was before they played furia my guy. They most likely reviewed the games they lost and fixed some mistakes
