ALEX set to leave Vitality - Report

Alex "⁠ALEX⁠" McMeekin has told his Vitality teammates of his intention to leave the team, according to a report from 1pv.fr.

The British tactician has shockingly decided to step down from the team due to personal reasons after growing weary of the constant traveling, with Vitality currently preparing for a busy period that could see the squad attend six events only in the next four months.

The announcement comes at a difficult time for Vitality, who occupy the ninth place in the rankings - their lowest since May 2019 - after a rough start to the year. The French team will have to play the BLAST Premier Showdown after finishing third in their group in London, and placed 9th-12th at last week's IEM Katowice.

ALEX joined Vitality in December 2018 to replace Vincent "⁠Happy⁠" Schopenhauer in what was the first roster change after the French organisation's entrance into CS:GO. He led the team to a second place in the rankings after an impressive run that included an ECS title and a runner-up finish at ESL One Cologne, with the squad adding one more trophy to their collection before the end of the year from EPICENTER.

Vitality are currently assessing their options ahead of ESL Pro League Season 11, which starts in two weeks, and the ESL One Rio Major, where the Frenchmen have a guaranteed spot in the New Legends Stage following their playoff run at the StarLadder Major. According to 1pv.fr, the team have set their sights on Ali "⁠hAdji⁠" Haïnouss, who is currently plying his trade for LDLC.

yeah, I read that thread. I agree with him in total. I can't find any French player that would help Vitality right now. But to be fair: AmanEk was 25 and came from T3 LDLC when he joined G2. Perhaps they can find a rough gem somewhere in lower tiers? You can compare with other scenes as well: Astralis went from a top1 contender to Best Team Ever by changing the youngest Major MVP in the world to a benched t2 rifler. Nawrot has been sacked in almost all of his teams, but still finds unknown players and bring them up to t2-t3

Nothing wrong with them just more teams being competent. Faze looks better, G2 looks better etc. Tier 1 is just becoming more stacked. They have the same issues they had last year. Zywoo just wasnt in beast mode to cover it up. Shox and Apex are still underperforming.

Not to mention paying for biils. He has around 215k euro earnings from tournaments and a fairly short period of getting decent salaries in cs go. Well, thats one of the main problems of vitality. He wasnt good IGL at all after they kicked NBK. Good decision for alex and for vitality. Cuz now alex can chill and V with shoxy as igl (i doubt theyll give this role to apex lol) will look much different. I expect more agressive moves from them. And i rly hope that shoxy will give more freedom to zywoo.

Not hard to believe. Players talk all the time about how travel affects them and how they want to be with their families and friends more. 1 player stepping down to do so isnt surprising. Calling him toxic is just dumb. Just because he disagreed with NBK IGLing doesnt make him toxic. Zywoos level dropped very slightly and that's on Zywoo not Alex, the team still played around him just as much. The not smiling could be directly related to the weariness. If travel is making you sick would you smile? You can keep speculating but until you have any proof it's pointless.

it didn t work.. since alex take more space in their way of playing, since they rely more on him vitality play bad since beginign of this year basically ..alex played like he want to be the star player, picking with awp thinking he is simple and stuff like that... it has been a clown fiesta with apex and shox..it clearly diidn t work and i was expecting a roster change. also really dont agreee with the team playing for zywoo, zywwoo is the one playing the most for the team he got most of his frag on his own by picking , clutching ect.. flash for other players ect.. that no surprise he has insane win rate in fpl

Epicenter is all they won, granted against a hard charging Mouz. They went 3rd in a group with Col and Navi at Blast. They also went out of IEM Katowice in 9-12th alongside NIP, EG and Lions. They look kinda down and I don't think EPL was going to change much. Meanwhile G2 have won the other tournament, Champions Cup, which ran parallel to Epicenter before not only qualifying for IEM Katowice but also making it to the Finals AND topping their group by destroying OG and EG before beating OG again at Blast. G2 aside from those Finals have way more potential imo and are only getting started just like Navi. Titles it's 1-1, sure Epicenter had better attending teams but ultimately G2 had more success.

You're forgetting CS is a team game. Pretty hard to win when Apex and shox rarely do their jobs at a tier 1 level. Vitality has had great teamplay and strats and most people rated Alex as a top 5 IGL in 2019.

You have 2 possible ways in top 10. You have great players like S1mple, Niko etc that can really carry a team even if the team doesnt play for them. Or you have a team that works together. Like mouz and Astralis and Sth that Aleksbi had in Ence. Sergeij is talented but without a good IGL useless. Alex has Zywho but they only know one strategy to win and that is very poor IGL. I am glad Alex leaves. I see Apex crying the tears from backstabber are so tasty

Nah Vitality have a ton of variety of tactics and many ways to win. Alex cant make shox and apex perform better. So many times they have been in round winning positions due to Alex's calls and failed. It's pretty much been echoed by every analyst. Vitality have the structure and the star. What they need is the supporting cast to step up. That's mainly Apex and Shox, rpk has the least frag heavy roles on the team and does his job. Apex and shox posting sub 1.0 ratings is the real issue.

Vitality with NBK #2, with Alex down to #9. They have the best player in the world but they still need a good IGL and Alex is not that. He is also, imo, the single most toxic person in the CSGO scene in his interviews. If even a fraction of that toxicity makes its way into the team that would also have been a contributing factor to their undeniable and significant decline since Alex joined the team. This is a good opportunity for Vitality to make some positive changes, it's forced their hand.

Should be pretty good if faze decide get him maybe instead olof, broky is young and have a potential, niko back to fraging, olof have experience but that you can learn with time. Again you clearly dont understand the NBK kick. Literally all other 4 members said they didnt want to play with NBK after his toxicity at the major. And i like NBK always been a fan but when the entire roster says they dont wanna play with you anymore theres no staying. It was him or Zywoo apex rpk and Alex. Pretty easy choice. NBK isnt usually toxic towards teammates, that doesnt mean he didnt do something during the major that was in fact toxic. It was well known he and Alex had conflicts. NBK was toxic indeed and his kick was long due after his major behavior ( remember his finger to xtqqqz after a won match ? ) But from what I understood ALEX pretty much put Vita in a " It's him or me " situation ( and ALEX is very good friend with xtqqqz IRL, that's even part of the reason why he was picked instead of AmaNEk in the 1st place ). But the part you are kind right on , and I say that as someone that doesn't like NBK at all, is that facts speak for themselves and they have been consistently worse since he left. Especially on their CT sides which used to be their strong suit. Looks like, despite all that has been said and done, he was bringing something to the team with his CT lead.

Hadji doesn't make any sense he isn't a IGL and his fragging isn't anything special, let alone in tier 1 . To me either bring a leader like davidp, or a real young talent like mitsutaa or jeyN... Or even give Scream a last ride ( at least he has a name ) to try to revive 2016 G2 squad but with ZywOo instead of smithzzzz ( slight upgrade ) and apEX instead of bodyy. I could see such a team making a good run if shox and scream ( and apex ) can level up, as they all like the loose skill based style of IGL
