North upset Na`Vi in ESL Pro League Season 11 Europe

North took down world No.1 Natus Vincere 2-0 in the second series of ESL Pro League Season 11 Europe Group B.

The IEM Katowice champions gave a disappointing account of themselves in their first online match since November 2018 as they were outclassed by North, a team sitting 23rd in the world rankings. Veteran René "cajunb" Borg led the charge for the Danish side with a series-high 1.42 rating, though it was Philip "aizy" Aistrup who had everyone talking after his spectacular quad-kill on Dust2.

The series kicked off on Nuke, where initial on-goings suggested a steadily developing lead for North's T side. Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhailov's troops picked up the pace towards the latter stages of the half, softening their deficit to a single round. However, It was on the defense that North really shined as the Danes allowed only three rounds to slip in their opponents' favor.

North outperformed Na`Vi in their opening series of EPL Season 11

Dust2 saw an unusually poor performance from the CIS-based squad, as CT-side struggles and lack of momentum cost them dearly. An initial six-round lead for North was met with some pushback, but the Danes pushed ahead, concluding the initial half with a commanding 10-5 lead.

A spectacular start to the defense solidified North's lead, as the CTs found themselves two rounds short of map and series conclusion off the bat. A slow A Long take fell through for Boombl4's men, yielding the opposition map point. The CIS offensive did their best in a comeback attempt, but the burden proved too heavy in the long run.

ESL Pro League S11 has already produced a considerable number of upsets, the biggest of which saw Astralis trounced by NiP during the opening day. Earlier on Tuesday, Complexity were defeated by FORZE in a nail-biting three-map affair, confirming Benjamin "blameF" Bremer's suggestion that playing online is "a bit of a wildcard".

Online games are almost irrevelant. Enjoy random results and just wait for proper LAN events, real CS will begin then.

1st proper lan event will be after this corona shit, which no one can predict when this ends tbh I dont see katowice as an real event. it was on lan yeah. but the playoffs were shit, with no crowd sad to see 2020 the worst year of cs:go pro

Crowd is not a big problem. Main reasons are ping and that players from different countries can't even play sitting near to each other with the coach during quarantine and transport block.

Majority of the reason why any of these teams are relevant in the first place is due to online games. You absolutely have to bring your best game both online and LAN if you want to be relevant. The only ones that can shrug off online games are the top10 teams as they will get invites regardless and barely need online qualifiers, but they still need to qualify for majors. Saying online games are irrelevant is incredibly stupid.

So you just confirmed online games aren't relevant for NaVi, as they are top-1 and already qualified for major legends stage.

So the fact that underdogs beat top teams makes you feel the tournament is irrelevant??? Could have happened on lan as well. Astralis is not on the level they used to be, Navi did great but offgames happen plus they didn't prove themselves over a long period of time. I think these games make the tourney much more interesting

Seriously? Ofc the fact that they are playing online has an effect but I honestly doubt that both matches (ast and Navi) would have gone differently. The Navi match maybe but Astralis didn't look too sharp (as they used to look) on lan as well. North are not a top team obviously, but if you look at the players, they have potential.

aizy is actually not a fluke. He's a pretty complete player. MSL is only good with the AWP on CT from time to time, bad fragger. Gade is also very inconsistent

I think gade broke at some point while in game leading - something similar to the case of valde. He used to have stellar aim and was often very capable of holding solo sites against proper opponents. It could be his confidence or the roles. Maybe he is just falling off, but I dont really believe that. Might be some time before he adjusts to play with MSL.

Expected result from an online match and moreover Navi choke initially was also expected on this platform.... But am sure these top teams like navi/astralis will bounce back to track as the tournament progress, they are the top teams and they will surely find a way to get on the top!!! Both North and Nip were lucky to get their first match against them and for them now it's time to play smart to reach playoffs, not to get over confident on this win as the real GAME is yet to come...

Online cs is ridiculous. The mental aspect, which has such big impact especially on lan, is nonexistent or at least much more unimportant. If they'd really decide to do an "online-major", noone could ever see the victor as a real major winner tbh

cajunb fragging was what gave North the win, he has been pretty bad recently, so having the worst fragger on the team step up to top frag is a big firepower boost for North. assistance by kjaerbye on nuke and aizy on dust 2 sealed Na’Vi’s fate. it’s basically what happened at Dreamhack Stockholm 2018 but compacted into one match; if North can get their worst player to start getting kills, they can do so well!
