MIBR part ways with zews*

MIBR have announced the departure of coach Wilton "⁠zews⁠" Prado from their lineup with immediate effect.

The departure of zews marks the end of a fifteen-month tenure for the 32-year-old as a part of MIBR, a roster with whom he reunited with in December 2018 as part of a transfer agreement with Liquid that also included the exchange of Jake "⁠Stewie2K⁠" Yip and Epitacio "⁠TACO⁠" de Melo.

While Liquid went on to find success with their new addition, winning five titles in a row and the second season of the Intel Grand Slam in 63 days, MIBR struggled to post results. The team failed to achieve a grand finals berth over the course of 22 events played since zews and TACO's additions, with their best placements coming from 3-4th place finishes at IEM Katowice 2019 and the CS:GO Asia Championships.

zews' time on MIBR has come to an end after a little over a year

The team's lacklustre results were compounded by continuous changes to their roster as MIBR sought out replacements for Marcelo "⁠coldzera⁠" David and João "⁠felps⁠" Vasconcellos, eventually settling upon Ignacio "⁠meyern⁠" Meyer and Vito "⁠kNgV-⁠" Giuseppe. Still, their results did not improve as they placed last at cs_summit 5, and were unable to prevail in their group at DreamHack Open Anaheim and BLAST Premier Spring Series.

In a statement written in Portuguese on Twitter, zews explained that the team felt they were "not even close to achieving the success they wanted during this rebuilding phase for MIBR" and took his share of the blame, saying he failed to make calls he thought were necessary for the rehabilitation of the team and for settling for certain decisions that were made.

"I'd like to say that I believe MIBR's problems are closer to getting solved, but unfortunately I don't know if I believe that to be the case," zews went on to say. "The problems I found here are heavier, more complex and more deeply embedded than they seem to be, and in my opinion the solutions tend to be more complex as well - requiring a bigger change to the roster and/or to its culture. I do not wish to give excuses or to create problems, I take my blame, but at the same time, I have to analyse the situation to be able to learn from it and to continue to evolve as a professional.

"As for my future, nothing is settled. My wish is to continue competing and dedicating myself to this esport that I love. Due to the global crisis and COVID-19 I will stay in the US analysing my options. UPDATE: Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo revealed during a stream on Twitch that team manager Ricardo "⁠dead⁠" Sinigaglia will take zews' place and act as MIBR's coach, and added that the team are not in search of a new coach at this time.

cause zews has apparently not been utilizing the talent of the players to their potential. Let's be real, Fallen, fer, kng & meyern on paper should make at least a top 10 team. Sure you could call them washed up or what ever, but they have shuffled through some players (felps & lucas) who also weren't too bad in their prime and they've always failed to get good results. Maybe a different coach can improve the squad.

Wow. This is somewhat shocking for me. I know that MIBR has not been doing well for a while now, but they did really well in the past with Zews including number one in the world for some time, after peacemaker. I have always felt that zews fit that team well and the chemistry was there. I think personally that they should try and get felps back. I would startt with that. I just don't think they have the right players in the right roles right now. I also do not feel that liquid should replace Adren.

Im hoping this is zews getting a better offer else where. Imo he does good things as a coach

I don't think that he needs to go to team liquid right now. I don't know what he would bring over Adren. I think that Adren meshes well with that team and they have done great things together as a team. I don't see I need to make changes to that team at the moment. Maybe someone can tell me somethings that I don't know, but like I said, I don't see a reason to make a change to liquid right now.

I would agree that they are in a slump, but I feel like every team goes through a slump at some point. Just cause you're going through a slump does not mean that you need to make a team change. liquid was number one in the world for a short time with adrenaline as their coach. I don't feel like Zews even with his experience of leading made in Brazil would bring much to the table for liquid. When he was there coach, they were having a lot of problems closing games. I know they still have problems at times closing games but you have to admit that it is a lot less now than it was. And I think that's because of Adren.

No that's because they actually have a fiery player in the form of stewie. Zews actually brings leadership to the team because none of them aside from stewie are really leaders and even he is confidence based. Liquid was #1 once they got stewie let's not get it twisted and act like adren has had huge impact. Its not like they're tactically unique or have greatly developed their map pool since getting adren. He doesnt do much besides the odd idea he gives during timeouts that every coach does. What they got with stewie is a player that was truly passionate and wore it on his sleeve. And with zews they would have that just the same but with someone with a lot of confidence to boot so that it's there in all moments, not just the good ones. And if you truly believe adren is helping then just move him to analyst and have him develop strats and study demos behind the scenes/during practice with nitr0. Liquid needs someone who can be the emotional leader while they're on stage and that's exactly what zews provides.

I would agree with you on this. I do think Stewie is a good leader and he is confident based, in his leadership. Zeus would bring some needed psychological stabilization to the team, however, I feel like this can also be brought by adren also. I do agree with you that they're not the most technically unique team out there, I would personally give this to Astralis. With all of this said and you pointed out some great things. Why do you think they traded Zeus back to made in Brazil when they could've just picked up Stewie, Zeus, and put adren into an analysis role? I also agree with your last statement in that liquid needs someone that can be an emotional leader, more so, a stabilizing leader that is more vocal than adren is behind the team while on stage. I think this is something Adren could do, but it would be out of character for him considering he is more of a quiet type person that just sets in the back.

Basically everything he said is what ppl that follow this team for a long period of time knows. The culture and the behavior inside this team is difficult to change, I personally thought that since he has a very old friendship with "dead" he could put some more input and do some improvement but it seems it was denied the chance again. Same thing happened with YNK as well. I'm glad that he left, this boat is going to sink. Liquid should get him again, imo their were better with thim than with AdreN. The only thing that kept Liquid from not reaching titles was the topnotch performance from Astralis.
