CSPPA, tournament organizers in talks to change off-season dates

The Counter-Strike Professional Players' Association (CSPPA) and various tournament organizers are locked in talks about changing the dates of the summer and winter player breaks, HLTV.org has learned.

The change to the summer off-season dates was proposed by ESL in cooperation with DreamHack and StarLadder in light of the global limitations imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, which have caused tournament organizers to make considerable adjustments to the event schedule.

Scheduled to start on July 15 and end on August 15, the summer break would take place more than two weeks earlier, from June 29 to July 31, according to the proposed dates. That change would most notably affect ESL One Cologne, whose original dates on July 6-12 would fall within the off-season.

ESL One Cologne might be moved to August and played in a studio

ESL is currently studying the possibility of moving the staple event to August and holding it in a studio environment. The German tournament has been in serious doubt since the country's government extended the ban on all major events until the end of August in response to the pandemic.

The CSPPA has suggested prolonging the winter off-season by a week to last until January 17, taking into account players who celebrate Orthodox Christmas on January 7. That adjustment, which has already been accepted by ESL, DreamHack, and StarLadder, was proposed after several parties expressed their criticism regarding the old dates when IEM Katowice Europe Closed Qualifier took place on January 9-10 this year.

HLTV.org has reached out to ESL and the CSPPA for comment.

"Orthodox Christmas" is inaccurate, considering not all Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas on that day, but definitely a great move!

Oh Muricans... By Old Calendar they are on the same date (I think the topic is Christmas, dont you? ), but because Orhodox Church switched to new, its been pushed back to 7th of January... American education, as expected..

Some Orthodox churches celebrate Christmas on December 25th while remaining in communion with Constantinople. I refer to January 7th as "Old Calendar Christmas" because it's a more accurate title.

We all celebrate it on 25th dude...... "Many Orthodox churches recognize the holiday dates according to the Julian calendar. Christmas is still on December 25 in the Julian calendar so the January 7 date is only valid between 1901 and 2100 The Gregorian date for Orthodox Christmas will be January 8 in 2101 if the Julian calendar is still used."

Never understood player breaks. I get it that top tennis players need their moment to rest their muscles and mind. But esporters? Enjoy that u can travel rather than making it seem like labour intensive work.

Yall have player breaks 365 days of the week. Normal ppl work 8-10 hours a day doing physical labour while yall just sit in your room in front of a screen playing games. And yes. I envy everyone whos in that position

+1 They should hold it Jan 3 instead so drunk people have time to wake tf up, and kids are still on vacation from school which means higher viewer numbers and more profit to the companies involved. (Because kids control a decent chunk of their parents economy on average.)
