Gen.G top Road to Rio Group A, 100 Thieves & Cloud9 to quarter-finals

Gen.G are through to the semi-finals of ESL One: Road to Rio - North America after securing the top spot in Group A, while 100 Thieves and Cloud9 have advanced to the quarter-finals.

The first group of the North American side of the first Regional Major Ranking event came to its dramatic conclusion on Saturday, with all of the top three spots coming down to the very last match, in which Gen.G and Evil Geniuses both fought for survival.

In danger of placing outside of the playoffs in case of a loss, which looked like a real possibility when EG won the opening map 16-6 and got off to a good start on Nuke, the Damian "⁠daps⁠" Steele-led side ended up clinching their fourth win after coming back on the Terroist side and securing a hairy Dust2 decider.

Meanwhile, 100 Thieves finished the round robin with four wins, as well, having beaten Cloud9 in the last match, but Gen.G's victory meant second place for the Australian squad due to a loss in the head-to-head matchup.

Johnny "⁠JT⁠" Theodosiou's side finished in third place despite an opening fumble against the group's heavy underdogs, Triumph, thanks to a hard-fought Evil Geniuses scalp and as the only team to beat Gen.G.

The last matches of Group B, where four teams are still in the running and the only team safely through to the playoffs are FURIA, will determine the remainder of the bracket teams on Sunday. An Brazilian matchup between MIBR and FURIA will headline the day, while Liquid will take on Yeah and Envy is set to go up against Bad News Bears, all at 22:00 .

Every team stan is on were showing lots of explosivnes in first 3-4 months and after that time team would get to a regular tier 2. So as we are witnessing with this EG roster - were pretty good at the begining but going down to a midi NA tier 2

I have no idea about his personality. I've long been critical of his playstyle though. At points he lost rounds for his team by over extending after gaining an advantage. I would also say his calling is, at times, similar. Calling is more tricky though, so I can forgive that. There is something to be said for his issues with sticking in a team, or their performances being shaky, especially with a team like EG who have an immensely solid lineup on paper.

Because they use head to head system. Both 100T and Gen.G have the same points but since Gen.G won against 100T, they earn the top spot

Because H2H mattered here and GenG emerged victorious in that regard since they won against them But there isn't any point of round difference when it's gonna come down to H2H to decide , just creates more confusion.

They are not in legend stage. Nobody will be after this tournament. This tournament gives you RMR points and there will be more tournaments that give more points (the closer to the major the more points it gives). NA teams with the most points will qualify (i don't remember how many spots they have)
