Astralis look to add to roster - Report

Astralis are exploring the possibility of adding at least one more player to their CS:GO team, according to a report by DBLTAP.com.

The decision comes after a rocky start to the year for the Danish team, who finished last of their group in BLAST Premier Spring Series and failed to reach the final at IEM Katowice and in ESL Pro League Season 11.

According to the report, Astralis are once again on the lookout for a new player despite having reached an agreement with Patrick "⁠es3tag⁠" Hansen in March. The 24-year-old will join the team for nothing once his contract with HEROIC runs out, at the end of June.

Astralis could soon add to their roster

In an interview with HLTV.org, Astralis coach Danny "⁠zonic⁠" Sørensen stressed that es3tag would be part of the team "on equal terms with everybody else", rejecting the notion that the HEROIC player would be brought in as a substitute.

Astralis are currently sharing the top spot of Group A in ESL One: Road to Rio with Ninjas in Pyjamas, with both teams having a 4-1 record. The Danish team have a busy period coming up as they will be taking part in DreamHack Masters Spring and in the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown.

I heard from a reliable source (a friend of dupreeh) that some players of Astralis don't want to spend most of their time practicing/competing CS. Instead they want experience normal life stuff like study, sleep with random girls, do a normal job and travel world, etc because they already achieved everything in CSGO and have a sh*t ton of money.

I mean not the same as pronax who dominated all teams and left to have challenge. But seems like this players needs a break 1 or 2 months atleast. I think the only reason to do this is to prepare the next "Astralis", with more motivation but with a similar concept of team play. Astralis in the end is truly the best team in history of cs:go, but it can easily become a joke if it shuffles players and replaces them one by one. They need to create a new core that plays alongside the current roster for a while to become accustomed to what Astralis envisions while gathering experience.

I can see a world in the future if there is enough money and support for counter strike. That there will be big rosters with either map specific players or position specific players. That way the inferno players can just play inferno all the time and the dust2 players can play just dust2 or if a player is getting wrecked every round in 1 position maybe you could sub in a different player with different skills. Would make the game more like football and american football with more reliance on the manager. I hope it doesnt go that way but i can see it going that way as if you do many long best of 3's players can get tired and lose concentration. It just takes 1 team to do it well and have major success with it. Then everyone will copy. Subs in football only came about to protect players from injury and now there ecen considering having 5 subs to further protect players from injury due to packed schedules and heavy physical demands.

One most assume, that the 5 players chosen for a specific tournament will get the Prize Money, with the player not taking part getting nothing. In that sense it would be equal for all. Zonic, in a manager role but listening to the team, would choose the team. It could work for Astralis, because they have won so much and are sometimes feeling the strain. Many of them would like to skip some tournaments. Some may have personal issues and Device doesn´t travel well. But if none of them have issues or form crisis, then the 5 big names will play the biggest events, so it won´t be completely equal. I wonder how the rules are, for changing setup during a tournament. That would be unfair and should only be allowed if someone has health issues ... and perhaps not even then. Substituting a player would be unfair to team without a 6th player, who would be forced to have a coach sit in if they had health crisis.

Except they will most likely not be able to use their "6-man roster". The rules for the RTR already disincentivises deviating from your 5-man roster and docking you points when you change your roster. Valve don't like this weird bending of the rules, they seem to like the game how it was meant to be played. 5v5 and already have nerfed the impact coaches can have and the latest updates to the rules against chanign your starting rosters. I highly doubt you can switch players mid-tourney with Valve sponsored events.

I still don't get how this will work. Their CEO said that zonic decides who plays when and where (within tournament rules ofcourse): But how? They have a core of 3 players who played together for 5 or so years. Two "newer" players who's only been there for 2+ years. And they're basically solid and have tried everything. So what is zonic gonna be most likely to choose you think? And how does team chemistry play out when you're the 6th man and barely get to play any tournaments if the 5 others are solid and experienced? There's a real chance someone might end up ruining their own career like that instead of playing every single time for a lower ranked team.

impying it was ever perfect? they lost plenty of games. just aimbotted more consistently than the competition for a while. they were allowed to. 2015 fnatic allowed to aimbot blatantly as much as they want, 2016 SK/LG, then it was astralis turn, now who will be next? maybe navi? simple seems to have 2x higher acceleration on his aimbot than any other tier 1 player.

I said last year when zonic released his book and talked at length about how hard it was to be away from his kids and wife all the time that this would be his last year as coach. If he can make his team take a 5th major that's about it I think and he'll get a role within the org that means he doesn't have to travel 150 days a year away from family. It hurts man. It's mTw all over again. Build the best tactical squad only to drift apart and disband.

Device still have health issues, which means that if, lets say, Astralis travel to USA for a long event, they can just put Es3tag or this 7th player in for Device. Its a smart move tbh and we will most likely see other teams doing this soon as well. My guess is that Fnatic or NaVi is the next team to do so.

But some event organizers gotta calm the f down, like Blast, they make 3000 events per year instead of just making 2-3 big events they make...6 or 7 2 day events, so imagine if ur a EU player and need to travel to America or Australia for 2-3 days and then go back home, thats pretty rough.

Heres the thing. Es3tag is not a "shit" player, hes decent, and with some solid teammates i bet he could improve. Also, Es3 is a good player for Astralis since he can play entry, support and AWP. That's genius. Imagine gla1ve (or another player) has internet problems or feels sick IRL or even has a bad day, they can't just swap him, NOT AS A STAND-IN. They can play 6 or 7 players just like they can play 5. That's a bit scummy but it's innovation.

Every tournament has a roster lock-in. They can't just switch players day-to-day, and that's not what they are planning either. For example they would need to play their standard core in the Major and RMR tournaments, but they could play a different roster in DH Masters at the same time. In case of injury etc there's usually something called an emergency switch but that needs to have proper reasoning and needs to be approved by the tournament org. zonic has said that the aim here is to help with fatigue, to be able to rotate players for different positions to help them better recover between tournaments. device has said he's had some issue with fatigue, with all the travel and playing so frequently, and I think that's true for every player. Bringing on es3tag and these next two players is good to be able to switch it up.

It's a gamble. Astralis have a team dynamic that I think can be very fragile. The core of device-dupreeh-Xyp9x is crucial for Astralis' success, and messing with that by bringing in other players is dangerous. Then again if they don't maybe Astralis will start declining due to fatigue. A necessary change, but I'm unsure how it will work out. Very curious to see who they sign.

Exactly. Then again a lot of their success also comes down to good strategy and positioning. If they can get es3tag trained to just get in there and pick up any of those positions then he might be a short term substitute for the old core.
