FaZe and G2 through to Road to Rio playoffs upper bracket; North and GODSENT to lower bracket

FaZe and G2 have moved on to the ESL One: Road to Rio - Europe upper bracket semi-finals, while North and GODSENT will go through the playoffs' lower bracket.

FaZe defeated the last-placed c0ntact early in the day in a two-map series to conclude an undefeated group stage run with a total of seven victories in as many matches, and took the best possible seed into the playoffs where they will face Ninjas in Pyjamas in the upper-bracket semi-final.

FaZe went 7-0 in the group stage and are through to the UB semi-finals

Movistar Riders were able to save face against GODSENT in their last fixture of the group stage after four straight losses in their last four matchdays to secure sixth place, and will go on to face fnatic in the 11-12th place decider match, while GODSENT ended up in fourth place and will go on to the playoffs.

The day went down to the line for the two Danish teams in the group, North and Copenhagen Flames, who played the decider maps in their series against G2 and MOUZ simultaneously.

Mathias "⁠MSL⁠" Lauridsen and company needed a victory over the Frenchmen, who had secured second place when Movistar Riders beat GODSENT, and a loss from their compatriots, while CPH Flames depended only on themselves getting the win. North looked to be flying through Nuke late in the series, 15-8, and although they gave up the last 7 rounds in regulation they were able to take it home in overtime and watch as Copenhagen Flames ended up falling to MOUZ, the latter already out in seventh place no matter the outcome.

The conclusion of the group stage means the best teams in both groups will meet in the playoffs, with Astralis facing G2 on one side of the upper bracket, and FaZe going up against Ninjas in Pyjamas on the other. The lower bracket will see the French duo of Vitality and Heretics play against GODSENT and North, respectively.
