Former CLG and Liquid player Josh "⁠jdm64⁠" Marzano has announced his intention to quit competitive CS:GO and focus on VALORANT.

The 30-year-old AWPer has been inactive since his removal from Envy's active roster in June 2019, primarily spending his days streaming Rank S and FPL. The news hardly comes as a surprise as, despite being a free agent, jdm64 was unable to find a new team to call home after his release.

jdm64 has been a staple name in North America for many years. After competing in both CS: 1.6 and Counter-Strike: Source, he rose to prominence in CS:GO as a part of mouseSpaz and CLG from 2014 to 2016 with his laid-back AWPing style.

The former Liquid AWPer takes his leave as he turns 30

His performance on CLG led to an opportunity on Liquid, whom he joined in trade for Kenneth "⁠koosta⁠" Suen. There, jdm64 enjoyed the most successful period of his career, managing a runner-up finish at the ESL One Cologne 2016 Major alongside Oleksandr "⁠s1mple⁠" Kostyliev as well as deep runs at a number of other international events, including the ESL Pro League Season 5 Finals and the 2016 and 2017 editions of ESL One New York.

Besides ESL One Cologne 2016, he attended five Majors, also making the playoffs at MLG Columbus, where he put up a joint-team high 1.14 rating in CLG's quarter-final run.

After taking a break following his removal from Liquid, jdm64 resurfaced in October 2018 on Envy, spending seven months on the roster, for which he averaged a 1.04 rating, before making a final exit.

He was never a known quantity in Source (unlike, say a Naf or an Autimatic). I can't speak to 1.6, I'd stopped following NA by about 2012. He only really became known in GO, and frankly he wasn't even that special then.

You think it's better to waste your younger years doing it? As a 36 year old that makes no sense to me, teens and twenties are the best years for being highly active, that only gets harder after 30. For playing computer games it makes no difference though, except a very slight drop in RT. Regardless of age though, people have to work for money and spending 8+ hours a day in front of a computer is unfortunately not abnormal at all.

I also wanna add, this is another player's career that Nifty has killed. Stupid ass Nifty making the dumbass roster changes on Envy has ruined a lot of player's careers, yet no one is talking about this. Jdm was usually the top fragger while he was on the team, while Nifty bottom fragged, yet s0m, jdm, android, and Fugly were the ones that got kicked. 3 of those 4 players are probably quitting cs to go to Valorant, even though they should've never been kicked from Envy in the first place.

Gen.G, Liquid, EG, Cloud 9, Chaos, Triumph? I mean of those teams only Gen.G, EG and Liquid have real potential but it's not like there aren't orgs paying. I've said it before in other threads but if you are an unsigned CS pro in Europe or NA you'd be dumb to not try Valorant. Riot supports it's games with big franchised leagues. They're sellouts. The players who are moving aren't good enough to earn an income in CS. I think Valorant is providing them the opportunity to make a bit of quick cash with the added possibility/hope that maybe they can stretch it out for a few years. I dont get it. Valorant does look very inconsistent after only 1 1/2 months, CS will surely never get to that point, but grow. To bring in my own opinion: At first valorant is something new, and you do enjoy it, but after you get used to it,it gets me bored really fast. There is a lot to improve, the maps are shit and spells to op (f.e the rocket thrower). Ofc rito will balance things, but i dont see a way, theyll get it anywhere close to CS in the next years.

I believe that he still has it. He was pretty decent in envy lately even tho he had trash team. In liquid players were changing all the time so it was hard to get consistent. He deseved some good team to proof him self but well, no one wanted him and that's a shame

Imo he was just way 2 one-dimentional. His awp is very good, but without it he had nothing going for him against good opposition. I still think he was consistent in Liquid and did the best he could in his situation, and then he kept trying to come back up but never got to do it. And that's pretty much it, he had his time and his time is over.

I think at 30 you should be thinking about hanging up the m&k and working towards a career. So many of these washed up players well past their peaks who simply can’t accept it is time to turn a new chapter. Gaming is a perishable skill and you can’t pick up a new game at 30 and become a champion. This goes for heaps of these gamers who are still going and thinking they can make it at a new game, just get a career and enjoy it.

+1 There aren't many companies going to give you an opportunity when your 30+ with no office skills.. Life for a lot of these guys won't be pretty past 35. That's what I think about all these pros who never actually succeeded. These guys spent the past 10-15 years playing this game and, therefore, didn't get a major degree or education past school. There isn't much for them besides CS, but CS isn't for them anymore. Pretty fucked up IMHO

great point, with the contacts they have they could even work in esports from a biz side. Look at GobB he is head of CSGO operations for BIG helping build an org he owns part of, a real job, instead of trying to be a 30+ year switching games. I am 37, JDM is as ridiculous as me retiring from my high paying job to try to become a pro VALORANT player and break into esports, except he doesn't have a job he can go back to so it would be even worse for him. I wonder if at 40 years old they still will make articles about guys like this, or if it stops here?

Been following him since CLG times. He is not as bad as you might think, but i can't deny that he is not improving as other players in cs should be, followed by there are so many talents that skillful wise much much better than him.
