ENCE edge past NAVI in DreamHack Masters Spring

ENCE have won their first match in DreamHack Masters Spring, taking Natus Vincere by surprise with a narrow 2-0 victory in Group D.

After Elias "⁠Jamppi⁠" Olkkonen sat out ESL One: Road to Rio, the Finns' opening match in DreamHack Masters witnessed the return of their newest addition, who played pivotal part in the close victory as he put up a team-leading 1.25 rating over the course of the two-map series.

Combined with their undefeated run at Elisa Invitational, ENCE have maintained a perfect record with the 18-year-old. The Natus Vincere scalp represents the new lineup's biggest victory yet, which comes as a much-needed confidence boost for Miikka "⁠suNny⁠" Kemppi and company after the team's form has deteriorated since late 2019.

ENCE have reasons to smile again

It is another piece of bad news for Natus Vincere, however, as shakiness has plagued Kirill "⁠Boombl4⁠" Mikhailov's team throughout May. Earlier this month the team exited the CIS division of Road to Rio in the group stage, and they're now sitting at 1-1 in DreamHack Masters Spring after picking up a near-miraculous win over Vitality on Wednesday.

ENCE started off the series on the right foot as they came back from a 6-11 deficit on the opening map, putting up an impressive defense spearheaded by the team's veteran and up-and-comer double AWP in the hands of Aleksi "⁠allu⁠" Jalli and Jamppi.

Natus Vincere had trouble keeping the Finns at bay early on Dust2 and although ENCE let the foot off the pedal towards the end of the half, they were still far behind at 5-10 by halftime. A second-round forcebuy win gave Oleksandr "⁠s1mple⁠" Kostyliev's team a chance as they climbed back into contention, but the Finns managed to remain ahead and clinch the victory in the last round of regulation after winning a close 2v2 postplant scenario on A.

You only come so far with stats, especially when you don't sort it with topx. Zywoo is clearly the better raw skilled player overall, which he demonstrated last year. He's also a lot better on LAN than online, which the stats also show.. but obviously not a lot of proving grounds in 2020.

When it's about raw skill s1mple is definitely ahead of zywoo. He showed it in 2018. And even in 2019 when he didnt even main awp for the majority of the year.

Sorry to disappoint you, but s1mple is nowhere near Zywoo's level in terms of reactionary plays and smart angles overall. He might be more mobile and confidence oriented, more "flashy" to most viewers, but not even remotely close when it comes to raw skill.

Even though S1mple looks as the best player in the team from stats. From what I have seen today on train. He looked scared, didnt try to peek, wasnt agressive, was almost always one of the last guys. Just didnt like it. But overall NaVi, I was surprised they got 12 rounds on train. They just all seem, that nobody knows what they alle are going to do.
