Astralis fall to NiP in first match without Xyp9x

Ninjas in Pyjamas bested Astralis in their BLAST Premier Spring Europe Showdown best-of-one opening match on Train, 16-7.

BLAST Premier Spring Europe Showdown marked the beginning of Marco "⁠Snappi⁠" Pfeiffer’s period as a stand-in for Astralis. The 29-year-old is taking over for Andreas "⁠Xyp9x⁠" Højsleth, presumably until the end of the month, when Patrick "⁠es3tag⁠" Hansen is expected to join the Danish organization.

The Danes paired up against Ninjas in Pyjamas, who recently made changes of their own by bringing on Hampus "⁠hampus⁠" Poser in place of Jonas "⁠Lekr0⁠" Olofsson. The Ninjas started off with two losses after making their roster move, going down to Vitality and Natus Vincere, but have since evened the record out with a victory over ENCE in DreamHack Masters Spring and now with a victory over Astralis in their BLAST Premier Spring Europe Showdown opener.

NiP earned their first BLAST Showdown victory against Astralis

Ninjas in Pyjamas got off to a good start in the best-of-one match-up on Train, winning the CT-side pistol round before taking a clean anti-eco. The Swedes were then able to put up a solid A defense in the first gun round, which they won thanks to doubles by Fredrik "⁠REZ⁠" Sterner and hampus.

The Ninjas made it to 5-0 without much of a struggle before Tim "⁠nawwk⁠" Jonasson denied Astralis with back-to-back multi-kill rounds with the AWP. Down 0-7 the Danes were finally able to get on the board with upgraded pistols, after which they slowly built up their momentum to a very respectable 6-9 score at the half.

Ninjas in Pyjamas defended their lead by winning the second pistol round, going on to double the amount of rounds held by Astralis before the first gun round, 12-6. nawwk and Simon "⁠twist⁠" Eliasson were then able to pull off a 2vs3 on the A site with the clock ticking low to keep closing in on a victory. Astralis denied the Swedes match point, going 7-14, but then ran out of fuel falling 16-7.

Org is dumb

No, they're just not very well-off as of now (financially). The ORG is very smart, but they are currently operating on a massive lack of funds (hence why es3tag deal is free once his heroic contract expires and why they picked up JuGi after his contract with North expired). Having a lack of funds doesn't make one dumb, it just limits the potential of the org.

It is ludicrous to say that a company with large income, but lacking funds is dumb. Maintaining their roster (i.e. wages), with all the extra costs involved in the group's 'renovations of esports' (i.e. employed sports psychologist or gym facilities) is expensive and is not guaranteed to be covered by a large income. Furthermore, from my understanding of esports contracts, players at the level of the Astralis core (device, dupreeh, glaive, xyp9x and magisk) will have contracts that give them most of the prize money won from tournaments. Therefore, the wins that Astralis get will have next to know impact on the financial situation of the company, as the company won't have a notable change in wealth from each win. Next, PR does not mean funds. PR means public relations, standing for how the company is viewed by the public, its' consumers and its' critics. This has nothing to do with funds, on the one hand there are correlative studies between PR and profit levels of a company. I agree with you that strong PR may have netted Astralis some extra brand-deals, but it is unlikely that strong PR is a defining factor in the financial stability of an organisation. In conclusion, PR is not definitive as to how an org performs financially which discredits your opinion that Astralis "Are dumb" for having a lck of funds. Furthermore, the brand values of Astralis induce many costs which actually make it more likely that they will have a lack of funds, which further refutes your reasoning for calling the organisation "dumb". Finally, the prize winnings of the organisation are most likely being given to the players, simply in the nature of supply and demand of world-class players such as Astralis' core which many suitors would happily purchase to represent their own org. Therefore, it is unlikely that Astralis has substantial financial gains from each event prize collection which prevents the producing of a developed source of funds. PS: Astralis Group is an organisation that works on a world stage with thousands of dollars everyday, I don't think they would've got to this stage if they were "dumb".

I feel like I will stop watching CSGO matches at all. It's no fun with one of the most consistent teams in CSGO ever now being all but dead. All other teams just don't have any consistency behind them or rely too much on firepower (like FaZe).

You have to be a fool to think Astralis is gone. They are gone for now. For the past 2 years we saw them evolve the game on levels never reached before. Made the game so much more team oriented and less dependant on stars and playmakers. I think xyp9x and glaive's "vacations" are actually part of their plan. They want to refresh and have more motivation when LAN events come back and in the meanwhile it will be a bonus if they can win something online with stand-ins and replacements. I never liked them, but no one can deny the fact that they changed the game and made it so much more methodical. Often their CS was considered boring, but if you look at some of the situations you will see they always aimed for CORRECT CS, not flashy one. And while s1mple or anyone else entertained you with their puggy/flashy/unconventional ways of playing Astralis focused on calculations and teamwork. That's what brough them titles. So I highly doubt that after 1 grand slam and 4 majors they will stop. They are taking a breather, because the current situation with the virus is allowing it.
