100 Thieves, Chaos eliminated as BLAST Spring Americas Showdown group stage concludes
A tense group stage that saw a majority of maps go all thirty rounds leave Chaos and 100 Thieves out of contention heading into the playoffs.
Ties, comebacks, and close matches were the stories of the BLAST Premier Spring Americas Showdown group stage, with just three of the twelve matches that were played ending with the losing side in single digits and nine matches concluding with over 28 rounds played.
Chaos were the team on the receiving end of two of those one-sided losses, kicking off Group A with a 16-8 defeat to Gen.G on Mirage and concluding with another 16-8 loss on Inferno to FURIA. Joshua "steel" Nissan's side came close to scoring a win over MIBR in their second match-up, but failed to close out a 15-9 lead as Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's men won six straight to secure a tie, leaving them at the bottom of the group standings with a single point to their name.
FURIA, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat to their countrymen from MIBR, putting their head-to-head record to 7-1 in match-ups. However, wins over Gen.G and Chaos still put Andrei "arT" Piovezan and company at the top of the standings at 6 points, while MIBR and Damian "daps" Steele's side ended their group stage effort in second and third place, respectively, to advance to the quarter-finals.

The Australians of 100 Thieves ended up at the bottom of Group B as they were unable to find success on Nuke, falling to Evil Geniuses in their opening match and letting slip of 12-3 and 11-4 leads against Triumph and Cloud9, drawing against the former and losing to the latter in a match that would have ensured themselves of a spot in playoffs.
EG added a second win to their tally as they took down Cloud9 in their ensuing game, leaving a match against Triumph in the cards for a spot at the top of the group. There, it seemed that Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman's troops would make good on their team name as they held a 15-12 lead on Dust2 against Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz's side, but three final rounds from EG crushed those hopes to conclude the group stage with a fourth tie.
The final standings for the group stage of BLAST Premier Spring Americas Showdown look as follows:
As a result of topping their groups, FURIA and Evil Geniuses will advance directly to the semi-finals, where they will await the winners of the first round of playoffs that kick off on Friday.
The two teams who emerge victorious from the semi-finals will earn spots in the BLAST Premier Spring 2020 Americas Finals, where they will be joined by an additional team that will be determined through a third-place decider.
