100 Thieves, Chaos eliminated as BLAST Spring Americas Showdown group stage concludes

A tense group stage that saw a majority of maps go all thirty rounds leave Chaos and 100 Thieves out of contention heading into the playoffs.

Ties, comebacks, and close matches were the stories of the BLAST Premier Spring Americas Showdown group stage, with just three of the twelve matches that were played ending with the losing side in single digits and nine matches concluding with over 28 rounds played.

Chaos were the team on the receiving end of two of those one-sided losses, kicking off Group A with a 16-8 defeat to Gen.G on Mirage and concluding with another 16-8 loss on Inferno to FURIA. Joshua "steel" Nissan's side came close to scoring a win over MIBR in their second match-up, but failed to close out a 15-9 lead as Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's men won six straight to secure a tie, leaving them at the bottom of the group standings with a single point to their name.

FURIA, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat to their countrymen from MIBR, putting their head-to-head record to 7-1 in match-ups. However, wins over Gen.G and Chaos still put Andrei "arT" Piovezan and company at the top of the standings at 6 points, while MIBR and Damian "daps" Steele's side ended their group stage effort in second and third place, respectively, to advance to the quarter-finals.

FURIA topped Group A to earn a first-round bye in the playoffs

The Australians of 100 Thieves ended up at the bottom of Group B as they were unable to find success on Nuke, falling to Evil Geniuses in their opening match and letting slip of 12-3 and 11-4 leads against Triumph and Cloud9, drawing against the former and losing to the latter in a match that would have ensured themselves of a spot in playoffs.

EG added a second win to their tally as they took down Cloud9 in their ensuing game, leaving a match against Triumph in the cards for a spot at the top of the group. There, it seemed that Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman's troops would make good on their team name as they held a 15-12 lead on Dust2 against Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz's side, but three final rounds from EG crushed those hopes to conclude the group stage with a fourth tie.

The final standings for the group stage of BLAST Premier Spring Americas Showdown look as follows:

As a result of topping their groups, FURIA and Evil Geniuses will advance directly to the semi-finals, where they will await the winners of the first round of playoffs that kick off on Friday.

The two teams who emerge victorious from the semi-finals will earn spots in the BLAST Premier Spring 2020 Americas Finals, where they will be joined by an additional team that will be determined through a third-place decider.

The schedule for the playoffs can be found below:

These guys placed better than 100T and C9 and are probably better than so many of the EU teams being paid way more than them is the reason why no one is trying in the NA scene and why so many people are flocking to Valorant

stop being over dramatic, people are flocking to Valorant because they can't handle csgo pro levels. Also this team just made a name for itself. These guys were unknown before so now they're in the radar for the big orgs.

The only ones going to Valorant are either washed up players or straight bots who can't find their way into the relevant NA scene and sadly there's not much money around in the tier3 NA scene right now but don't worry they'll 100% become the best players in the world in Valorant when all the kids learn how to play the game and have 10x times better aim and reflexes than these bots sure. Like FNS for example. I have 0 doubts he'll become a top player in Valorant once the scene developes due to his massive mechanical skillset and understanding of a game which has no competitive meta yet. Give me a fucking break...

There is no money even in the Tier 2 NA scene. There are only 5 teams that are earning salaries that are enough to consider it a job in NA and 6 players on those teams are not even from NA.

Funny you say that because a lot of these unpaid teams would easily wipe the floor with a lot of paid EU teams.

Of course that's the reason tier1 NA orgs are signing non NA players left and right because there's so much level in NA yes only Complexity, c9, 100T, EG, OG, Renegades, Faze or genG have non NA players because their bad decision making

I’m not talking about tier 1 EU teams, I’m talking about the tier 3 shitters that are lower tanked than heroic but still earning money compared to any NA team below top 5 which is earning no money for playing for a team

jks should replace stew or RUSH, both teams would evolve and jks would finally be saved from this team... he and ZywOo are doomed to carry way worse players

Jks is inconsistent too and all his great performances have an asterisk of one person starting off great in the match and later he starts playing good too.
