Vitality defeat Dignitas in BLAST Premier Spring Showdown playoffs; to face fnatic next

Vitality came out on top in a three-map series against Dignitas, earning a spot in the next round of the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown playoffs.

Vitality didn’t have the strongest start in BLAST Premier Spring Showdown, with ties against ENCE and Ninjas in Pyjamas, and although they were able to beat a struggling Astralis, they lost their last group stage match to the heavy underdogs of SAW, ending up in third place. The Frenchmen now find their way through to the second round of playoffs, where they will face fnatic, as they made it past Dignitas after winning the decider map of a three-map series that saw the two teams take each other's pick.

Vitality got off to a brilliant start on Nuke, Dignitas’ pick, taking the CT side pistol round. A four-kill by Dan "apEX" Madesclaire gave his side a 3-0 lead after the first gun round, but the Swedes struck back with a pistol buy to get on the board. Vitality charged ahead once again, however, in control of proceedings on the defending side with ebullient performances by Richard "shox" Papillon and Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut, who led the French team to a 13-2 half.

The second half opened up with a pistol round win by Dignitas, but they were soon against the wall as Vitality won the forcebuy and followed it up to get on match point. Despite winning a forcebuy of their own to stay alive, the Swedes didn’t manage to stabilize and lost their pick 5-16.

ZywOo had a stellar performance against Dignitas with a 1.68 rating

Dignitas lept to 3-0 on the CT side of Dust2, further extending their lead in the first full buy round thanks to a solid A defense by Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg and Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli. It wasn’t until the eighth round that Vitality could start to make their mark, going on to take three more to trail 4-11 after the first half of play.

Vitality secured the second pistol round to stay alive as ZywOo downed three and Cédric "RpK" Guipouy two, slowly getting back into the game despite losing to a third-round buy from Dignitas, swinging momentum back in their favor to make it 8-12. The Swedes didn’t let up, though, and with the map victory in their sights, they were able to make it over the finish line winning four rounds in a row to push the series to the decider.

Vertigo started out with Dignitas taking the lead on the attack, but a 1vs2 clutch by ZywOo turned the map around early on as Vitality proceeded to tie it up 3-3. The French squad then ran away on the defending side, and it wasn’t until the eleventh round that Dignitas could crack their way into a bomb site, winning a 3vs1 afterplant to make it 4-7. The Swedes were then able to bring it back close, ending just one behind at half-time.

Doubles by f0rest and Adam "friberg" Friberg in the first pistol round brought the game back to even, 8-8, but they weren’t able to stop a B hit against the anti-eco, falling behind once again. From there on out Vitality made themselves strong on the attacking side winning five in a row to a 13-8 lead. They were then quick to jump on match point, and although a streak from Dignitas threatened a comeback, the Frenchmen ultimately secured the map 16-11.

It was a close game. Dignitas even could win this match if hallzerk didn't choke on Vertigo. And Get_RiGhT also didn't perform well on BLAST. Before this tournament I really liked how he played in Dignitas, but his performance on BLAST is terrible. Congratulations Vitality on winning! (Especially ZywOo). NT Dignitas, you tried.
