The Brazilian roster took down Cloud9 in a three-map series to set up a semi-final clash against Evil Geniuses on Saturday.
MIBR entered the playoffs bracket hot off a strong group stage run, where they had tied against Gen.G, Chaos, and at long last claimed a victory over their Brazilian rivals from FURIA. Cloud9, meanwhile, fell in narrow fashion to Triumph and Evil Geniuses, but prevailed in a thirty-round affair against 100 Thieves to edge into playoffs contention.
Double kills from Ian "motm" Hardy and Ricky "floppy" Kemery kicked things off for Cloud9 on the offense of Overpass, but three Scout frags from Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo in the ensuing round quickly swung the momentum to give MIBR the upper hand. The Brazilian captain then took firm control of the proceedings with his AWP, mustering a 16-3 K-D as he obliterated Cloud9's attempts to enter bombsites alongside Fernando "fer" Alvarenga for a 7-1 lead, at which point Johnny "JT" Theodosiou's side finally broke through and rallied back to bring themselves within one round of MIBR at the break.
A pistol win in the second half kept MIBR in control as they pushed up to a 11-7 scoreline before Cloud9 were able to respond, with Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek finding triple and quad kills in back-to-back rounds to shatter the Brazilian bank. Much like in the first half, MIBR lost their grip on the game from here as FalleN considerably cooled off, managing just one additional round as Cloud9 fought to win nine of the remaining ten rounds for a 16-12 map victory.
MIBR's pick of Inferno began much the same as Overpass, with FalleN's side racing to an early 6-1 start as they created entries into bombsites. The rifles of floppy and motm helped keep Cloud9 in the running as they made an effort to stave off the Brazilian squad, retaliating by securing six of the remaining rounds in the half to once again narrowly trail at the side swap by a single round.
This time, MIBR did not let their lead slip whatsoever as they came out of the gates swinging on the CT side, converting a pistol victory into a seven-round streak to put themselves on match point in fast fashion. A triple kill from Josh "oSee" Ohm briefly stalled Cloud9's execution, but it was only that one round that went the way of the American-South African roster before MIBR took the map over the line, 16-8.
Cloud9's fate did not improve as Dust2 got underway, their pistol round victory quickly giving way to a force-buy from MIBR, who went on to win another six in a row to put JT's side on the back foot yet again. Four frags from Epitacio "TACO" de Melo gave MIBR the advantage coming out of a back-and-forth battle for control, but Cloud9 still managed to claw back a handful of rounds near the end of the half courtesy of a Deagle triple kill from floppy.
Another three kills from floppy put his side in position to tie up the scoreline as they won three in a row, trailing MIBR at 8-10. It seemed that Cloud9 would make good on that momentum as they answered MIBR's first gun round victory with a round of their own, but the Deagle of fer quickly put the Brazilians back in the driver's seat as control of the map swung back in the favour of MIBR. From there, fer's relentless aggression combined with the AWPs of FalleN and Vito "kNgV-" Giuseppe left Cloud9 no room to mount a comeback, with MIBR wasting little time in closing out the series.
