BIG stun FaZe, secure berth in DreamHack Masters Spring upper final

BIG continue their undefeated run throughout the tournament with another big scalp, sending FaZe to the lower bracket after a convincing two-map series.

The German squad has kept up an impressive performance in DreamHack Masters, as they started out with an unbeaten group stage run after facing MAD Lions, MOUZ, and Complexity and came prepared into the playoffs, putting on a convincing show against FaZe.

In their most one-sided victory so far at the tournament, BIG were in control throughout the majority of the series and made it look like the roles were reversed, winning Nuke and Inferno on the back of eight and twelve-round streaks, respectively.

Johannes "⁠tabseN⁠" Wodarz and company are now slated to go up against G2 in the upper bracket final on Wednesday, while FaZe have dropped to the lower bracket and await their next opponent — the winner of match between Vitality and Ninjas in Pyjamas.

BIG take down FaZe in a convincing series

BIG put their faith in Nuke and it paid off. Starting on the Terrorist side, the German team conceded the first pistol round to Helvijs "⁠broky⁠" Saukants's quad-kill but immediately replied on the back of huge damage from Florian "⁠syrsoN⁠" Rische's scout. A few inventive openings from (and through) hut and door later they were up 7-3, but FaZe didn't crumble under the pressure and closed the half with four out of the last five rounds.

Clinching the second pistol round, the European mixture looked to put the pressure back on BIG, but their momentum was spoiled once another massive Scout play from syrsoN put the underdogs in control of the map. And BIG never let go, with Ismailcan "⁠XANTARES⁠" Dörtkardeş and Nils "⁠k1to⁠" Gruhne's spectacular spraydowns helping them close the opener 16-9.

Inferno certainly didn't go as planned for FaZe in spite of a back-and-forth start, with the defense proving too strong for them late in the first half. A six-round streak gave BIG a 10-5 half and they topped it off with a convincing pistol round win, courtesy of tabseN's triple-kill, and Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač's team could never recover as they conceded the map without clinching single round on the offense.
