Bymas powers FaZe to victory over NAVI in DH Masters Spring

With a 2-0 win over Natus Vincere, FaZe continue their run in DreamHack Masters Spring Europe, earning a spot in the consolidation final where they will face BIG.

FaZe suffered losses to Natus Vincere in all three meetings between the two teams in 2020, and needed to turn around the negative trend in DreamHack Masters Spring to stay alive in the competition. Today they faced off in the lower-bracket final, where FaZe secured a comfortable win on their map pick, Mirage, and held off Natus Vincere on Dust2 to secure a swift 2-0 for the series. The Lithuanian rookie Aurimas "⁠Bymas⁠" Pipiras had an impressive game, leading his team with a 1.37 rating.

After a 3-0 start for Natus Vincere on the CT side of Mirage, FaZe's map pick on which they boast an 82% win rate in the last three months, Marcelo "⁠coldzera⁠" David showed up with a 1v3 clutch on B which helped his side equalize the score at 3-3. The CIS team moved back into the lead thanks to some well-executed aggresion before FaZe figured out how to counter it, tying the score again at 6-6. Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač was leading the fragging for his side in the first half, and before the end of it, allowed FaZe to grab a minimal advantage, 8-7.

That advantage was extended after the pistol, when Håvard "⁠rain⁠" Nygaard secured a triple, while Bymas' quad kill hold with the MP9 in the first rifle round put FaZe in the driver's seat (13-8). The two teams traded a few rounds from that point onwards, but FaZe quickly capitalized on their lead following another impressive 4K by Bymas.

In the second map pistol, Denis "⁠electroNic⁠" Sharipov unlocked the B bombsite on Dust2 with a triple that won them the round, but Bymas and coldzera turned around a 2v3 in the following force which got FaZe rolling early. rain was proving to be deadly on the A defense, pushing his side to an 8-3 advantage with a double, and Natus Vincere struggled to build any momentum. With only electroNic breaking double digits in the first half, his team managed just five rounds for the half, leaving them with a mountain to climb on the defense.

Oleksandr "⁠s1mple⁠" Kostyliev's flank netted him a hat-trick of frags on the second pistol, but the crucial round slipped away from Natus Vincere as Bymas and Helvijs "⁠broky⁠" Saukants combined for all five kills. Ilya "⁠Perfecto⁠" Zalutskiy locked down B in the first rifle round, which started Natus Vincere's streak on the defense, chaining rounds together for the first time on Dust2. The score was close to being equalized (12-11), when FaZe finally found a way to unlock the defenses - by rushing B. The European squad did it two times in a row, and after finding some momentum, pounced to close out the map 16-11.
