MAD Lions and Dignitas out of the running at cs_summit

MAD Lions and Dignitas have been eliminated from the cs_summit 6 Regional Qualifier after suffering stunning losses at the hands of PACT and FATE, respectively.

The Danish and Swedish sides became the first big names to exit the Summer Regional Major Ranking tournament early as they conceded their Round of 16 series of the Regional Qualifier portion, which means they have added zero points towards the European RMR ranking.

That comes as an especially big blow to MAD Lions, who have yet to make an entry in the run towards the ESL One: Rio Major after skipping the closed qualifier ahead of the European Minor amidst lineup changes earlier this year, when Asger "⁠AcilioN⁠" Larsen replaced Nicolai "⁠HUNDEN⁠" Petersen on the roster. Meanwhile, Dignitas remain in 16th place of the ranking at best with only 150 points earned from Road to Rio.

Just one chance left for MAD Lions to earn points in the RMR ranking

With the poor placing at cs_summit 6, the two teams will be hard-pressed to put on a good showing at the last RMR event, set to take place later in the year, with hopes of reached the all-important top-11 placing in the standings.

The rest of the first round of the Regional Qualifier has concluded and saw multiple other upset opportunities. In the end, the other favorites prevailed as fnatic just scraped by Nordavind after a series that ended with the Swedes winning in overtime of the deciding map, while HEROIC and BLAST Premier Spring Finals winners Complexity had to come back from a map behind in series against Endpoint and Japaleno. Sprout, AVEZ, and HAVU have also exited the tournament in the first round.

The quarter-finals are now underway and are set to award their winners four slots in the main portion of cs_summit 6. One more spot will be on offer in a secondary single-elimination bracket featuring the losers of the quarter-finals.
