River Plate expand to CS:GO

The Argentinean football club River Plate has signed a team headlined by Ezequiel "⁠KUN⁠" Palmero.

River Plate formed their esports division in 2016, setting their sights on reaching their younger fans through football simulators, before unveiling a League of Legends team in late 2019 to compete in LVP's Liga Master Flow. Deemed a success, they have now added a CS:GO team to their repertoire.

The Buenos Aires-based organization reached out to 22-year-old KUN midway through the year, but negotiations didn't prosper until recently, when the player was benched in Coscu Army and brought on to spearhead El Millonario's first foray into Counter-Strike.

River Plate have incorporated a CS:GO team in their esports division

KUN and River Plate decided to sign on his with former teammates Ariel "⁠arieldidi⁠" Ramirez and Mariano "⁠MRN1⁠" Santa Maria, who had recently joined the free agent market after leaving Hawks. They then brought on another free agent, Thomas "⁠christo⁠" Navales, before rounding out the squad with Guido "⁠guidimon⁠" Romano, a former member of LVP Unity Flow's current top team on the leaderboard, Malvinas.

Hugo "⁠rew4z⁠" Cáceres was then decided on as the team's coach, marking the skipper's return to the sidelines for the first time since 2017, when he was put in charge of Miami Flamingos after Jonathan "⁠JonY BoY⁠" Muñoz and company moved to Gale Force.

River Plate will be competing in Aorus League, FiRe League, Logitech G Challenge 2020, Argentina Game Show and La Liga Pro Trust, among others.
