Cloud9 eliminate Yeah from DreamHack Open Summer
Johnny "JT" Theodosiou's troops edged out a narrow two-map victory over Yeah to keep themselves in the running for DreamHack Open Summer.
Cloud9 entered the Group B elimination match of DreamHack Open Summer looking to make up for a dismal start to their tournament run, where they had fallen to TeamOne with one-sided losses on Inferno and Dust2. Yeah, meanwhile, had found themselves up against stronger opposition in the form of FURIA, conceding the series in two maps despite holding their Brazilian countrymen to thirty rounds on Mirage.
The elimination series got underway on Yeah's pick of Dust2, with Eduardo "dumau" Wolkmer helping his team take control on the T side. It was a hard-fought half for Cloud9 as their economy throughout the half was poor, a result of being unable to string together any round wins; however, sporadic as their rounds were, Ricky "floppy" Kemery and company still managed to post six by the break to give themselves a fighting chance in the second half.
A pistol victory and subsequent eco and first gun round conversions kept Yeah in control at the onset of their defensive effort, allowing them a 13-6 lead before Cloud9 were able to respond. A comeback effort was in the cards for the American-South African roster as they rallied back, conceding only two additional rounds as they forced overtime. There, the two teams remained at odds, with Cloud9 needing a second overtime to edge out a 22-20 victory and move the series on to Train.

A T side start on their own map pick proved to be of little issue for Cloud9 as they took four rounds early on, although Yeah began to battle back through the combined efforts of Victor "iDk" Torraca and dumau, resulting in a brawl in the latter portion of the half as the teams held their own.
Just one round separated the teams at halftime, but another pistol victory from Yeah allowed the Brazilian side to once again pull ahead, 11-7. However, once Josh "oSee" Ohm had an AWP in hand and the rest of the team had an economy built up, Cloud9 regained their footing as they won eight of the ensuing nine rounds to attain match point. Crucial kills from Rodrigo "RCF" Figueiredo helped Yeah en route to forcing overtime, but there it was Cloud9 who reigned supreme to narrowly secure a 19-17 victory and take the series.
