TeamOne edge out Cloud9 to secure final DH Open Summer playoffs spot

The Brazilian roster narrowly secured a 2-1 victory in the Group B decider match against Cloud9 (16-13 Dust2, 16-19 Overpass, 16-14 Train) to earn a spot in the DreamHack Open Summer playoffs.

TeamOne continued in their winning ways against Cloud9, adding a third straight win to their tally against the American-South African roster in the past week. After initially securing a victory against Johnny "⁠JT⁠" Theodosiou's troops in their Group B opening match, the Brazilian roster was able to come out ahead in a keenly-contested three-map series, sending Cloud9 packing from the tournament in 5-6th place to secure the final spot in the playoff bracket.

The two teams began their dance on Dust2, with Cloud9 prevailing in a number of retake situations to pull ahead 6-1. However, seven in a row from TeamOne kept the teams within one round of each other at halftime, and a forcebuy victory from the Brazilian roster in the second half allowed them to take an additional three rounds straight for an 11-8 lead. Cloud9 took a string of their own in reply, but a battle late into the second half saw Pedro "⁠Maluk3⁠" Campos and company come out ahead to edge out a 16-13 map win.

b4rtiN helped TeamOne take the series over the line on Train

TeamOne seemed to have run out of steam on Cloud9's pick of Overpass, unable to put up much of a defense as Ricky "⁠floppy⁠" Kemery and Josh "⁠oSee⁠" Ohm led their side to a 10-5 lead at the break. Strong showings from Matheus "⁠prt⁠" Scuvero and Bruno "⁠b4rtiN⁠" Câmara allowed TeamOne to get back into the saddle in the second half, going blow for blow against their opposition to force overtime. Unfortunately for the Brazilians, that was where they momentum was put to a halt as Cloud9 only conceded one round before bringing an end to the map, 19-16.

Cloud9 maintained control at the onset of Train, making up for losing the first string of rounds by taking a 6-3 lead. However, b4rtiN stepped up to the plate with his AWP, locking down the B site and helping to enable retakes as the teams put themselves within one round of each other heading into the side swap. A pistol victory for Cloud9 allowed them to regain the upper hand at 11-9, but once TeamOne had rifles in their hands, the combined forces of b4rtiN and Matheus "⁠pesadelo⁠" Panisset allowed the Brazilian roster to come out the better side and edge out a 16-14 win to close out the series.
