ENCE suspend Twista after 2017 coaching bug use admission

The coach was suspended until further notice after notifying the organization of a one-time coaching bug incident from 2017, before he joined ENCE.

The organization has consulted the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) and, despite receiving assurances that Slaava "⁠Twista⁠" Räsänen can continue to coach during the investigation, decided to act on the information that the Finnish veteran used the infamous bug.

As the incident happened in 2017, it most likely concerns iGame.com, where the 33-year-old began his coaching career after transitioning to the new role from a playing position in late 2016. It is unclear to what degree he exploited the bug.

Twista follows the lead of the likes of pita and Rejin

ENCE have stated that they have no reason to believe Twista was responsible for any foul play since he became their head coach in August 2018. The organization will now wait for the conclusion of the investigation, which is expected to take two to three weeks according to ESIC.

Twista comes after a long line of coaches who have either been implicated or came forward to admit their use of the exploit. His admission came within the official "confession period", which ESIC opened until September 13 after launching a mass investigation into the bug's historical abuse.

So far, Aleksandr "⁠zoneR⁠" Bogatiryev, Nicolai "⁠HUNDEN⁠" Petersen, and Ricardo "⁠dead⁠" Sinigaglia are the only coaches to receive formal punishments, but more are likely to follow as the investigation progresses. Aleksi said on a Finnish podcast (urheilucast) that that was taken from an interview and was twisted to be pretty much wrong, just like the "more fun" comments by aerial that were not intended in bad spirit like it seemed to us. It was some higher-ups at ENCE who didn't like Aleksib as a person and forced him out.

This is wrong information. There was no reason "lacking firepower", there was personal reasons in team that resulted in benching aleksib. Were it leading style, or other player chemistry reasons, doesn't matter, point is, if people don't get along, they don't get along and it will show in performance sooner or later.

Serious punishments for coaches (year suspension) who abused the bug recently in important tournaments are absolutely fine, but if we're going to suspend/ban all coaches for a significant time who abused the bug while coaching a tier 8 team years ago, we're not going to have any coaches left it seems. There should be some form of a punishment still, even for offenses that took place years ago, like giving up the prize money and maybe having a couple month ban. Yes in this case, it was ENCE's own decision and the coach isn't officially banned/suspended from competitive play yet, but if all these coaches get hefty bans, the scene is going to be fucked.

I agree bans should be handed out even for minor offenses. After all, you did cheat and a punishment is warranted. But I think many of these bans, even for offenses that took place during tier 7 tournaments years ago, will end up being effectively lifetime bans, as you get banned for such a long period that you'll have to move on with your life and never return to the game and this will lead to a mass exodus of top tier CS coaching talent if the revelations keep coming at the current pace. The level of play will suffer considerably. We have to be careful with balancing punishment and keeping the scene relatively healthy.

The most serious offenses, especially repeat offenders during important tournaments should face at least a year's ban, as well as forfeiting winnings etc. If we start handing out bans that last more than let's say 6 months for every coach that abused the bug in any context even for a single round no matter how many years ago, I don't think the crime fits the punishment. A ban that lasts 365 days isn't technically a lifetime ban, but this essentially ensures the coach will have to move on from CS GO very likely completely and with their life, as they have to pay their bills somehow. This means a year's ban will in effect be a lifetime one. Let's say you stick around for a year just fucking around. What happens after your ban is over? Your reputation is completely tarnished as you're a convicted cheater. There is no guarantee anyone wants to hire you, even if you were good coach. A coaching position was very volatile to begin with. Team is having bad results? Let's fire the coach. Considering all these factors, how can you justify NOT abandoning CS GO completely at that point and moving on with your life?

Incidents going as far back as 3-4 years surfacing now and punishes many active coaches, nothing wrong with that but now that it seems many teams used this bug perhaps some amnesty would be benefical fo the scene and its people in general. That said, any new offenders should be punished now that the bug is common knowledge. I don't know, either way the scene has taken a good hit in how many possible sponsors/investors feels about throwing in new money in this shit show.

I disagree, I think many of these coaches used the bug more than once but have come clean saying they used it only “one time” so that demos featuring them are overlooked. Why look through demos involving teams that have confessed? It’s just simply too unlikely and unrealistic to believe that any coach who did use this bug only used it once.

streamable.com/lifh04 this is minor? its the game in question by twista pov, comeback from 3-12 to OT win with him seeing a lot of the enemy side map, especially useful on nuke. The game decided who qualified for a minor. so they literally cheated their way into a minor, knocking out another team (ironically hunden was playing). if u srsly look at that clip and think that is minor (its the same as wh as far as im concerned) then u need to get ur brain checked. then he types "gg" at the end lmao

I hope these bans wont deter tournaments from banning coaches from their tournaments with the same consequences as the first coaches who were banned. I can already see orgs taking actions like problem is solved and putting them back in their position in 3 - 4 months when the dust has settled.

coaches that didn't use it might have not used it for two reasons. one is integrity & dignity. second is they knew it can be seen on the demo. in the case of organizations like astralis if they encounter such a bug i'd wager they're just gonna study it thoroughly before they're gonna use it.

Ty for video!!!!! Twista said that he used it only once so there shouldnt be more rounds. I dont think that lengths of the bans are based on how many rounds was the bug used. I think its more like how many maps it was used in. Also he used it back in 2017 and he confessed so I think those are lowering the ban. Probably getting something close to what dead got.
