The Canadian in-game leader is ready to leave the squad, but will continue playing for Gen.G until they find a new fifth or a stand-in.

Damian "⁠daps⁠" Steele announced that another chapter of his career has ended, as he revealed that he would be leaving Gen.G, a project that was started under the Cloud9 banner in July 2019. The 27-year-old has offered to continue playing with the team in ESL Pro League S12 and until they find a replacement.

Alongside himself, the core of the team consisted of Kenneth "⁠koosta⁠" Suen and Timothy "⁠autimatic⁠" Ta, with the squad finding some success after the organization change at the end of last year. Since entering CS:GO with the daps-led roster, Gen.G managed to win DreamHack Open Anaheim and ESL One: Road to Rio, peaking at #12 in the rankings in June of this year.

daps will step down from Gen.G and is hoping to stay in CS

The 27-year-old shared that he was happy with what the team managed to accomplish "even though we weren't an insane team", but decided to step down after "three-four months" of thinking about it.

"It is a bi-product of a lot of issues within the team, including myself, but the Major was what was stopping me from leaving", he shares in his statement. "There had been some in and out of game changes I wanted over the past six months that I thought would have made the team better but were not agreed upon by all".

The IGL admits that the combination of the current state of the scene, with limited practice options, no LANs, and no option to attend bootcamps "led to me not being the best leader I could be for this team and put me in a rough mental state".

"This move will benefit both parties as I can potentially find something I believe in again and they will do better if they can find an IGL that has faith in the project that I once had. "

daps finishes off by saying he still loves CS and would ideally IGL a team that feels like is a right fit, but is considering other options as well: "If moving on as a player or leaving CS is the route I have to take then I will cross that bridge when I know more".

maybe they try to buyout stew from liquid and then daps goes to liquid. I could see both parties benefitting. Liquid have a proper IGL with some more tactics but still some freedom. Gen. G have someone who could pick up the AWP and enable auti to play rifle which is what he is good at.

Gen.G's issues are just kind of weird. Koosta is super inconsistent, and s0m isn't amazing. I also think they should've spent more time on getting Autimatic comfortable with being back on rifles. It feels like the team could do well if it was -s0m -Koosta, +oSee +floppy. You put oSee on AWP, Autimatic back on rifles, and then you have 2 solid players in BnTeT and floppy, with Daps as a decent IGL. Still majority Asian, Gen.G...

He could easily improve a top team in NA or EU, which they're are ample teams that need upgrades that could utilize his talent.
