Heroic, G2 handed early exits in IEM New York

The IEM New York 2020 Europe run of the #1 ranked team was ended early, while the French-Serbian lineup suffered a second consecutive tournament group stage exit.

Elimination games of IEM New York 2020 Europe saw both favorites suffer losses, as fnatic took down G2 in group A and BIG overcame HEROIC in group B.

The winners will have one more chance to make playoffs, while Casper "⁠cadiaN⁠" Møller's and Nemanja "⁠nexa⁠" Isaković's men will get a few more days to prepare for the upcoming European Regional Major Ranking event, DreamHack Open Fall, starting on October 15.

Heroic was handed a cold shower after reaching the #1 ranking on Monday

The wind was sucked out of HEROIC's sails in IEM New York as, just days after claiming the first place in the world rankings, they fell in the tournament with two straight losses - to FaZe and BIG. The Danish team got to the top with impressive runs in DreamHack Open Summer (second-place finish), ESL One Cologne (first), and ESL Pro League S12 (third), but couldn't keep up the pace this week.

On the other hand, G2's second group stage exit in a row is a worrying sign for a team that reached the #1 spot in June. After earning just two wins from seven matches in ESL Pro League Season 12, Damien "⁠maLeK⁠" Marcel's team was eliminated after a 0-2 losses to fnatic and Complexity. Both matches followed a similar suit, 16-13 defeats on the opening maps (Inferno and Overpass), and overtime losses on Vertigo.

HEROIC and G2 are set to compete in DreamHack Open Fall, but the future of the G2 lineup remains unceirtan after reports of the organization lining up a bid for FaZe star Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač.

Meanwhile, IEM New York 2020 Europe winner's matches will be played out on Thursday, with the losers of the series set to face fnatic and BIG for the final playoff spots on Friday.

even though BIG won - a bit lucky in my opinion. heroic is young and a really great team. maybe they were after the new hltv rankings a bit nervous :). anyway you cant complain denmark has really great teams. until hunden leaves mad lions, mad lions were also really promising :((

+1 Whereby BIG looked after the playerbreak a bit shaky. Heroic had definitly the better run, but your absolutly right both teams had a really huge development in 2020. And in my opinion it has nothing to do with "online" tournements. However Iam pretty confident that heroic will stay in the top 5.

Typical HLTV ranking. They always try to slap #1 spot to a team that has some good results in a short-term. Then of course they crash and burn under expectation. Consistency is not rewarded enough.

To be fair to Heroic their playstyle is just teamplay and confidence and then just trading eachother. Faze playstyle is their kryptonite even tho faze is shit right now. Big is similar.
