CSPPA, ESL reach agreement on tournament schedule changes

The proposed tweaks are based on feedback from the association's members and are aimed at improving player conditions, especially during this online era.

The Counter-Strike Professional Players' Association (CSPPA) has announced that it has reached an agreement with ESL Gaming to implement changes to the schedule and format of tournaments that will be hosted by ESL and DreamHack in the future.

The proposed changes were determined by a working group formed by CSPPA and the two tournament organisers — which were recently combined into one structure — with a view to monitoring the working conditions of players.

Among the changes listed is the adjustment of the starting times of matches to make sure that matches do not end after midnight. Teams competing in semi-finals and finals are to be given a minimum of three days' rest before playing their first match in the following tournament.

The two tournament organisers have agreed to implement a series of technical measures to avoid delays during LAN events. These include "installing certain programs on player PCs that will serve as a backup option in case of technical issues".

Large groups featuring a round-robin format will not be used moving forward, with the exception of ESL Pro League, in which the number of teams in each group will be limited from eight to six. The impact of this change is very limited, however, as the majority of tournaments hosted by the two organisers use a double-elimination format in the group stage.

"We are very happy to have established a forum with ESL and DreamHack, where we can address and act on scheduling-related challenges on an ongoing basis," CSPPA CEO Mads Øland said. "The collaboration has proven to work very well and I think that is because we are pursuing the same goal — to make the CS:GO schedule more balanced and sustainable for all parties involved."

According to the CSPPA, the proposed changes will be implemented "as soon as possible". The working group will continue to hold discussions regarding further changes where possible.

just look it up. Off the top of my head. take like 100%. ESL first takes all money they spent on production THEN I think they take another either 10-20% on top THEN I think teams get like 70% of the rest and players get like 30% Percentages might be wrong you are better off finding the ESL/HLTV/video about it to get fully correct figures.

i agree with you that the financial splits are better, all I was trying to (before fucking up idc with idk) say was that it isn't that important for the average fan but I understand that the financial splits create longevity for the league

I believe in the project, but the teams that signed on are kinda sus ngl, envy still has LEGIJA (omegalul), Gen. G only has a 3 person core rn, mibr is worse off with 2, c0ntact is the only real team attending rn. Mad Lions does have a lot of potential tho, if the HooXi & refrezh transfer comes through, I think they will probably win the second Flashpoint as well

well mibr only have trk I am pretty sure didnt kng say some shit? LEGIJA is a legitimate player on the team and to my understanding Nifty if still IGL. geng have a good core. c0ntact only got Espiranto and smooya. ML is a clown show after letting bubz go. C9 obviously the best team. also wtf happened to FPX? are they just out of the league entirely after Heroic thing?

fpx are not competing this season because they don't want to rush their lineup. They'd rather create a top contender with longevity than signing a team just for flashpoint 2 just to switch them all out cuz they suck

Bad News Bears very good, but thanks for the explanation. I don't know why they didnt pull the trigger during corona scare peak where orgs might have been scared. Fnatic and mouz have good teams but the orgs no where near as big

Bad News Bears was alright but nowhere near where they want to be. If FPX is trying to form a contender they probably could've snatched those teams, but I don't think those teams would sell. Most orgs don't even make their money back in cs so its really hard to identify teams that could potentially be good. Like no one knew that Heroic would be top 5 and a huge contender.

Heroic made big changes tho. BNB became Choas basically but yeah I was joking. thats the thing because the world was uncertain and no money is being made that meant it was time to sweep and come in with like a few mils for fnatic squad

Yo le noob, I think you reversed the share of the pm that goes to teams and players. An org with a top 10 team would be lucky to get 30% of the prize share.

Why do people say Flashpoint is bad? More money is better for the scene. Am I missing something? Sure the teams aren't the best but I'm sure the level of competition will get better over time.

Flashpoint is the epitome of American corporate greed. It's got some somewhat non-kosher investors, as well as all the teams in it suck. "The level of competition will get better over time" is false, flashpoint is doing what CGS did years ago, weed out the t2-3 players and teams that only care about money and not the competition or game itself. Eventually it will collapse and NA will be left with literally no scene.

Yo le noob, You are either a huge idiot or incredibly naive. They won't remove any team from ESL Pro League, just create more groups for the same number of teams to reduce the number each one of them has to play.

I never understand why they want to use round-robin format. The GSL is so much better and quicker. Sure everyone has to play everyone but then it leads to some useless matches in the end because outcome already decided.
