Astralis confirm sale of es3tag to Cloud9

The Danish player will join the North American organisation after DreamHack Open Fall.

Astralis have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Cloud9 for the transfer of Patrick "es3tag" Hansen to the North American organisation. The deal, which will be effective after DreamHack Open Fall, is described by Anders Hørsholt, CEO of Astralis, as "one of the biggest transfers on record", although the financial terms of the agreement will not be disclosed by any of the parties.

es3tag will move to Cloud9 at the end of the month

es3tag has been on Astralis' books since July 1, when he was recruited on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with HEROIC. He has averaged a 1.12 rating for the Danish team, who returned to the top of the world rankings on Monday after winning ESL Pro League Season 12's European division.

"I am proud to represent Astralis, I love the fans and I never for a second thought I would be move on to a different team this early," es3tag told Astralis' website. "I just won my first big title and I truly enjoy working with all the guys on and around the team. Over the past six months, I have grown as a person and a player, and I owe a lot to the organization.‍

"That being said, what Cloud9 is offering me is something I needed to consider seriously. I love the ideas behind the project, and I believe it will be a team to consider in the top of CS for the years to come. While I am sad to leave Astralis and all the people here, I look forward to the challenge in Cloud9."

es3tag rounds out the starting lineup of the new-look Cloud9, who will make their first appearance in Betway Nine to Five 5, a $50,000 tournament that will run between October 26 and November 4. The North American organisation is looking to add "an active sixth player" to the squad, according to general manager Henry "HenryG" Greer, to ensure that the team's plans are not disrupted by visa issues or health problems.

You can find the best CSGO betting sites here.

With es3tag on his way out, Astralis once again have a six-man active lineup as Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth is officially back on the team after almost five months out of action while on medical leave. Kasper Hvidt, Astralis' director of sports, stressed that the organisation is not in a rush to add to the squad but reiterated the desire to work with "a full two-team roster with 10 players" in the future.

With es3tag's addition, Cloud9's lineup looks as follows:

United Kingdom Alex "ALEX" McMeekin
United Kingdom William "mezii" Merriman
Turkey Özgür "woxic" Eker
United States Ricky "floppy" Kemery
Denmark Patrick "es3tag" Hansen

yes, this proves just how far ahead of the competition astralis is. imagine picking up a 6th man for free and then selling him for a truckload only 4 months later. this is how sports orgs should be run.

Imagine they are so far ahead that why copy mouz. Mouz get Niko for free as 6th man 2015/16 and sold him for 500k. Mouz get Ropzs for free and atm one of the the player any top team wanna have Gte bymas for free and will bring in the end at least 100k if it gets perfect and he become next ropz easy money.

mouz has done some great recruiting, no doubt. but selling the best player on your team is not the same as selling your rotational 6th man...

Mouz was shit with Niko. After he was sold, Mouz finally starts to compete slowly for trophies. So your "best players" argument is shit. You "far ahead" is such a fanboing bullshit. Astralis didn't invent the 6th man lineup and they didn't invent to get players cheap and sell them big.

Niko was easily their best player, even if they have improved as a team since. ropz is easily their best player now, selling him would also be a blow.

Niko was no help for team success. You can be the best player individual but when you turn your team into shit you are also the worst player for the team. Selling is the best you can do. Ropz is a team player who does what he gets told.

yeah, niko turned mouz into shit, it was never about any other player but him -.- yes, ropz is great. that's why selling him for would not be as beneficial to mouz as it is for astralis to have sold their fringe player.

watch how it went for mouz since they sold Niko. It went better for them from year to year. Imagine they wouldn't had sold him and build a lineup around him. Faze 2.0 with overpaid non tournament winner noobs.

sorry to be the one breaking the news to you, but faze has won more than mouz since niko's transfer... and if you don't think mouz would be better with niko than i.e. bymas you are just delusional... anyhow, selling a player that is not even on your starting line-up is still better than selling your star player. saying anything else is crazy.

Faze invest 3-4 millions more in the lineup. Win per € is in faze far lower than in mouz. And with mouz 6 tournament run last year they are very close to faze number wins. Mouz was shit with niko without success came. So proof me wrong oh you can't cuz that is what happened

yes, faze love burning through money, what does that have to do with any of this? mouz are good a recruiting, i agree. this does not change that it is better to sell your rotational player than your star player (yes, niko was their star player, even mouz improved as a team after selling him).

He is right with niko and mouz tho. Mouz were t2 EU team without him he came team went to utter shit and after faze bought him they actually achieved something. Niko is a good player but he wasnt good player for mouz.

and who cares it was 2016? Clearly mouz is stuck in the past if the best sell for them was 500k for niko, meanwhile astralis prob got 600-700k for e3stag. ropz is worth a milion , so what? astralis players are worth more, but they wont leave so is ropz in mouz

You talked about money so the time matters to understand the numbers. You don't know what astralis get yet. No a gla1ve and device maybe equal or little more worthy than ropz. Not all astralis player. Cuz as individual they aren't so good. They work in their system great but as standalone they don't have the value for other teams, except maybe marketing stuff.

funny that you even consider ropz equal or little more worthy than for example device or gla1ve any team in the world would love to get glaive as igl and i bet he would sell more than ropz. dev1ce isnt even debatable, cuz he is more skilled than ropz will ever be so its basic math that he would sell for more than ropz so overall 0/8

Play in the Major? With the Astralis core saying that they wanted to play with the old five man roster at the next major and not being "oh, I don't know, it is up to Zonic" about it then it was pretty clear that the old guard had drawn a line in the sand. If Astralis did say "nope, sorry lads, es3tag is playing the Major" then it would cause a hell of a split in the team and put es3tag in a really nasty position. If he moves to C9 then he'll play the major, 100%, and even has maybe a 5% chance of winning it. I'd say there is more chance that Astralis will win the next Major but vastly higher chance of C9 winning than Astralis winning with es3tag in the line-up which is what es3tag should care about.

Both device and gla1ve said before these news broke out that the consensus was that the 5 guys who won the last major will get to defend their title. Es3tag got a better offer, so he understandably took it.

CS isn't what it used to be, getting in top 20 is an achievment none the less. If they are a top 20 team for a year improvements can be made, look at BIG, Heroic, Fnatic, Furia etc etc. It's not only the top 1 spot that matters.

so why Godsent get so much hate when they always fight for top 20 spot?? Nobody talked about top1 but top 10. And BIG has the goal to be top 1 in Germany for german fans and sponsors. HenryG said C9 have to show success after the lineup starts. That are two different situations.

es3tag is overhyped atm. Before Astralis he was an average player. Astralis won 1 event and suddenly he is the best player in the world LUL. He will be average again in C9. C9 needed a player like JKS to become a top contender. With Es3tag they will not win Flashpoint and get seriously not much success.

Es3tag played for a long time. There is no need to wait. Everyone knows what he can do if he is in a "normal" team and not in Astralis. Just average player with average plays.

Veni vidi vici. I think this was mainly es3tag´s own decision. It would be interesting for most players to be based in USA at some point, and maybe he gets a more key position in the team ... and maybe more money. Plus he will leave on a high note, job well done. If it was entirely up to Astralis, then they would most likely rather let Bubskij go.

Great team in the server, but i really dislike them outside of it. “ Patrick will be missed by everybody here, and I hope one day, he will yet again be a part of Astralis. We wish him the best of luck!” Then why the fuck sell him...? No wonder why he does not want to go into specifics. Sleezy fucks

Has it ever crossed your mind that if you want to meep someone you need to give him trust and recognition. Astralis could just have said that they failed or where not able to keep a top performer satisfied because of internal stuff and they understand they fucked up and he took this opportunity.

Why you act so derogatory? This whole 6/7/8 man lineup was a fucking joke, it's rumoured that xyp9x will return and that probably made the decision for him. I don't understand why Astralis didn't put their trust in a player who wished to play for Astralis, didn't mean to leave but chose for his career. Obviously(!) But Astralis shouldn't act all sad and sorry when they have the say in trust/chances a player gets.

You think es3tag moved to Cloud9 because of ""rumours""????? wtf?? If xyp9x is coming back es3tag definitely already knew about it for some time now. And if he did this is probably because he just wants to play full time, after his good performances in Astralis. You don't want to stay "in the bench" waiting to play in a tournament in a month or two when you know that you're able to play at every tournament and do something for your team. Probably not because Astralis didn't gained his trust. He just wants to play.

its a business, every org will say this "oh we are so sorry for letting you go, blablabla", even though they wanted to get rid of him, thats how PR works anyway I think es3tag knew whats gonna happen to him and sooner or later he would either stay on that bench or leave the org, he just won a trophy and is recognised more than ever so i dont think he is sad

Ofcourse that's how PR works, and I hate it. Because it feels super fake. Instead of blowing smoke up their own arses be real. We all know what went down, so who are they fooling, right? And from a proper business you can expect some self reflection, IMO.

I agree bro. Things developped to a different level of professionality but lost quite a lot of charm. But maybe it's also that I got older that I miss the magic in CSGO, and the fact that i'v played and watched the same 7 maps for like 13 years.

I miss cobble tbh and CS needs new competetive map, that would fit into pro map pool (I dont think anubis is one of them) One thing about Astralis that needs to be said. The whole org was built, because the players were not satysfied with TSM. It looked like Astralis was the org mainly about their players and not business. But now its the same like TSM.

Damn... you are really stupid. He literally said he didnt think/wanted to leave astralis after only 4 months. He wanted to be a core player, which astralis didnt give him the trust in/opportunity for cuz xyp is coming back. So ofcourse he doesnt want to be the 6th wheel. But i can’t handle how astralis are acting all sorry for the loss, when they had all the tools to keep him aboard. DERP

lmao he never signed to be their 5th permanent core member..he knew he would be the 6th player that gets rotated... what did u expect astralis to do? dump xyp while he was on a break and make es3tag their perma 5th? got to be kidding me.. this wasnt even up for debate at any time. and no, they didnt have all the tools... because being a permanent player is not something they could offer to him.

Also ALEX who is way less skilled than gla1ve who is arguably the best IGL that has ever touched the game compared to ALEX who still has to prove himself to be a competent as an IGL without a major superstar the likes of Zywoo. SELL XYP9X INSTEAD. THIS DUDE IS MUCH BETTER THAN XYP9X... I don't care if xyp9x is the "clutch minister", whit es3tag in your team you wouldn't need a clutch minister because all the enemy team would already be dead leaving no possibility for a clutch. Is Astralis becoming the new MiBR?? But even worse??? Have better players and then sell them and keep the originals because they're only gonna play together..... and botbleve the team???

Lmao people who blame Astralis are so fucking dumb, they took Es3tag for free 3 months ago and now they sold him for 600-700k(my guess).Xyp came back and they still have Bubskji, that's how business works.

Heroic remained fucking solid, Astralis winning tournaments, getting a big check for es3tag, es3tag getting Astralis experience and joining a new project as star player instead of substitute, Cloud9 forming a team that looks scary to say the least yet hltv tards always need to complain. The es3tag arc is great for the scene in these turbulent times but these fucking retards just need to whine and blame.

Astralis with the power plays. They got him for free and now they sold a player inflated by their own teamwork. Along the way they manage to deal with the burnout in the team and actually won a tournament with him. Now they'll just have their main roster rested and ready to play again

well after all looks like RLewis and Thooorin might have been on to something, when they said "Xyp is holding the org hostage" xD Like, it's fine to bench es3tag etc. but selling someone who is potentially better than multiple players on your starting roster, before you even know whether Xyp can still hit a barn is just ridiculous

they will release info about his contract/earnings, but not the buyout but, you are right, it will be shady. because, if astralis pays more money than clown9, they will also have to cover for the difference within they buyout, so its obscured

No they didnt. Es3tag is a VERY good player that can play 3-4 different roles, entry, AWPer, Lurker and support + he was on a long contract with Astralis, why would Astralis be like "Yeah you can have him cheap?" Also, where did you get "2 mil pay out"? Both Astralis and C9 agreed on not telling the amount of the transfer.

"Right, he performed well for such a short period of time with a group of danes who are essentially the best in the world." I only mentioned that, if you want you can look at his time in Heroic as well. And also, remember his role back then before you comment lol. "who the hell will know if they will play well together." Well, no one knows how a team will play when its brand new and basically have 0 practice at the moment.
