The Brit has parted ways with c0ntact after his two-month trial with the European mixture.

Owen "⁠smooya⁠" Butterfield ends his short tenure with the Marco "⁠Snappi⁠" Pfeiffer-led squad as a result of a role clash between him and Otto "⁠ottoNd⁠" Sihvo, which saw the British player take up secondary AWPing after having been the primary sniper throughout most of his career.

"It simply comes down to my role within the team and the long term plans they have," the 21-year-old explained in a Tweet announcing his split from the team. "My main goal going forward is being the main AWP. I feel like in my time within Chaos I finally became my own player and want to continue on that path."

smooya finds himself teamless for the second time this year

smooya took part in three tournaments with c0ntact, the most notable of which is the DreamHack Open Fall closed qualifier, where the team just missed out on a spot in the main event following an incredibly close loss to MOUZ in the lower bracket.

The European side have yet to announce the Brit's replacement, but they appear to have already decided on one as they look to continue their campaign in the ongoing LOOT.BET Season 8. For now, c0ntact's active lineup is down to four players:

This is sad, the guy who so pumped to play Flashpoint for them. We don't even really know why they let him go again (honestly, his skills were being wasted as a 2nd awper behind Otto). NA orgs should ought to pick him up again, if Visas aren't a problem. They need players and snipers especially. I am a fan of him but if you keep getting booted from the teams again and again, maybe you are the problem.

Prob for the best, Smooya is a main Awper, a lot of places available in many teams rn. Hope he finds a good fit! As for c0ntact, they need another player asap for flashpoint, I guess rigoN comes in.

At this point, I always start to think that there is a problem (maybe behavioral) with the player (smooya right now), if he can't stay in a team at least a few months.

chaos wasn't his fault, it was visa issues due to covid c0ntact was because they had 2 primary awpers and ottond remained primary awper while smooya had to stop awping, which he didn't want BIG I guess could be a behavioral problem, but I actually don't know why he left
