Aerial steps down from ENCE's starting lineup to take indefinite sick leave

It is currently unclear when the 27-year-old will be able to return to action.

Jani "⁠Aerial⁠" Jussila has notified ENCE that he is on sick leave for an indefinite period of time, the Finnish organisation announced on Thursday. This leaves the team with just four active players, forcing the BLAST Pro Series Madrid 2019 champions to withdraw from Elisa Invitational 2, which is slated to start next week.

ENCE added that they are currently assessing their options in light of the news. The Finnish organisation will be looking to complete their roster in time for IEM Beijing-Haidian, the $150,000 tournament that ESL will hold between November 6 and 22.

Aerial will take some time off to focus on his well-being

Aerial has been on ENCE's books since the organisation's return to activity, in April 2018. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of BLAST Pro Series Madrid, where he averaged an impressive 1.28 rating to help his team, a wildcard invitee, win the event over the likes of Astralis, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Natus Vincere.

In a statement, the 27-year-old revealed that he has been unable to perform at his best due to what he described as "issues with my well-being". He has averaged a team-low 0.96 rating in the last six months, finishing all but two of the eight events that he played during this period with below-average numbers.

"This decision was extremely hard to make and it took me a long time to make the call," Aerial said. "Now it’s time for me to prioritize myself and my wellbeing over everything else. I would like to thank my teammates for their understanding, our fans for all their support and to everyone at ENCE for their help. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to come back to play yet. Now it’s time to focus on myself."

The news adds to an already turbulent period for ENCE, who are on the lookout for a new coach after Slaava "⁠Twista⁠" Räsänen was slapped with a 15.75-month ban by the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) for using the spectator bug during his time at the helm of iGame.com. The Finnish organisation is looking for an experienced candidate to take over the team, regardless of nationality.

Its not sad, it basicly confirms that he earned more than enough money to even consider leaving from somethng that he does for a living this early . He got a bank he thinks about doing something with the money he got now , i guess he could have played for a couple more years but he thinks that more money wont change anything and that he doesnt need all that. He wants to earn money other ways.

hes been with a team for 2 years , 2 years of constant tourneys and good salary . I feel like at 27 years old he realised that its time for things to change . Sickness was probably a depression , since i cant imagine anything else being that much of an issue . I also expect him to comeback like a few months after if he doesnt find anything else

Let's not forget that Aleksi led ENCE close to being TOP 1 (TOP 5), but they decided to kick him out in order to get more firepower to become the best team in the world. He is now doing the same thing with OG. ENCE players also wanted the gameplay to be more fun... So they got what they wanted. I believe also that sergej is in a wrong team. He should try to do something international as he is still young and shares the same passion most likely to the sports. Yet still people like him as a player. He would be good product marketing-wise. Role- and skillwise I agree it would make sense and sounds quite good, but from what I've heard, I don't think it would work very well. Allu in his good form is fantastic and entertaining player, but apparently "big baby" to work with. I don't think Allu wants anyone who might actually speak against his decisions in the team, and Zehn is known to be quite... how to put it delicately... "outspoken" person. Also, I'd like zehn to be bought at some tier1 or 1.5 team rather than finnish retirement house that just wants to have fun. Personally I'd think OG: -NBK +zehN, if zehN could swing that role.

HE 100% deserves a new and better team. Sergejs performance have become worse because Ence does not have a good IGL and trash players. SuNny = Garbage Aerial = Garbage Allu = Meh, not bad not good. Much here to agree with. But if you claim Sunny and Aerial are garbage I don't understand where you base your opinion on Sergej then. Sunny in his top form was better than Sergej in his top form (I think much better but for the sake of argument we can say he was at least as good). I think sergej's skill ceiling is higher than aerial but saying aerial is garbage is rather weird. Especially his entry kills into sites are very valuable. Call me a homer but Allu is definitely good. He is consistently performing well. ENCE seemed to gamble with Jamppi, hoping for the ban lift. I very much agree on the last part.
