High Coast sign ex-New England Whalers

The Swedish organisation has secured representation overseas heading into the new year.

High Coast have announced the signing of the former New England Whalers roster, consisting of a quartet of players and head coach Joseph "⁠Muenster⁠" Lima. The signing marks the organisation's first entry into North American Counter-Strike, although it will maintain a Swedish academy roster that is competing in ESEA Main Season 36.

Ben "⁠ben1337⁠" Smith and company found modest success towards the end of 2020 under the New England Whalers banner, managing a runner-up finish in ESEA MDL Season 35 and securing a 2-0 victory over FURIA in IEM New York North America.

The former New England Whalers roster have found a new home

The team peaked at No. 27 in the world rankings before being released by the Whalers organisation as their parent company, Greenhouse Agency, was "severely impacted" by the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, following their release, the team lost Brendan "⁠Bwills⁠" Williams to Triumph, and are now left in search of a fifth player heading into the 2021 season.

The signing offers a beacon of hope for North America after multiple organisations pulled out of the region or the game entirely, with Chaos being the most notable example.

With the player break underway, High Coast will have almost three weeks to finalise a replacement. The team hold a spot in ESEA MDL Season 36, which is slated to begin on January 18, and will likely also compete in the DreamHack Open January qualifier later in the month.

They can ask exactly as much as they want. So can anyone else in any other profession too. Different story if they get the job with that salary. In a fair world anyone should have absolutely all the rights to ask exactly as much as they want for their time and know-how. Nothing or no one should have the power to take away that right as you would suggest. That's how we get authoritarian dystopias.
