G2 kick off ESL Pro League run with victory over NIP

G2 beat the Swedes after double overtime on the second map of the series in Audric "JACKZ" Jug’s first official match since returning to the starting five.

G2 prevailed in their first official match since bringing JACKZ back into the active roster following the benching of star AWPer Kenny "kennyS" Schrub. Damien "maLeK" Marcel’s men took the Swedish squad’s map pick, Inferno (16-11), before securing the series on their own pick, Mirage (22-19), with François "amanek" Delaunay and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač sharing AWPing duties.

Despite the win, maLeK was cautious in his post-match statements, saying that "we are never satisfied, specifically in the last six months. If we look at the big picture, it has been a hell of a ride. A lot of changes, trying things, and a lot of losses, to be honest. I’m really happy that we won, but I’m really far from being satisfied."

The French skipper also talked about NiKo's new role and how he won't necessarily be bound to the AWP in the long term but it's necessary in the team's short term needs, stating that "if he [NiKo] wants to play the AWP he can AWP and if he wants to play with AK he can play with AK. He’s going to be really free in this team, we just need to figure it out. I just know he should be treated as a real star player and this is what you will see in the future.”

As for Ninjas in Pyjamas, who got great results right after bringing on Erik "ztr" Gustafsson at the beginning of February but have since been unable to replicate the early victories and are currently on a four match losing streak, they will have a chance to bounce back from their opening defeat when they go up against ENCE at 12:00 on Sunday in the second round of matches.

G2 are off to a winning start with JaCkz back on the roster

JACKZ made a splash in his return to G2’s starting lineup, charging ahead in the early rounds of the series as he and his team took the lead on the attacking side of Inferno, which they ended up winning by the slimmest of margins, 8-7, with NiKo picking up the AWP on several rounds.

Ninjas in Pyjamas took hold on the attacking side, winning the pistol round and the following two rounds to gain the lead momentarily before G2 retaliated on their first buy, which included an AWP in the hands of amanek. From there on out the Nemanja "nexa" Isaković-led squad set the pace as Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač closed out match point with a stellar play to make it a 16-11 victory.

Like Inferno, Mirage’s first half was also a close one, with only one round separating the two teams at the half albeit this time around it was Ninjas in Pyjamas, who started on the defense, that carried the lead after the first fifteen rounds.

G2 took the initiative in the second half, regaining the lead with four round wins in a row, but Ninjas in Pyjamas turned things around with a five-round streak of their own as NiKo struggled to find impact with the AWP and the two squads remained neck-and-neck all the way into extra rounds. Two overtimes later G2 were finally able to close the match out 22-19 in a scrappy ending of the series, tallying their first three points in the group stage.

Lol most people always say they can be dev1ce and just hold an angle. But the truth is, pro awpers make it look easy because they know how to position and where to stand. Random faceit and matchmaking idiots wouldn’t be able to do that. They also wouldn’t know how to react to executes Last point, pros awpers consistently hit their shots (the good ones at least) TLDR - good awpers make it look easy when it’s a lot harder in practice

i doubt that. he is already a hybrid player, just not a hybrid awper but that doesn't mean he will never actually reach their levels as hybrid awpers.

thing is that g2 isnt very awp forward and relied on jackz amanek and hunter to make plays so if niko doesnt need to be like s1mple or zywoo

G2 looked pretty good, they still need to find their chemistry with JaCkz back in the lineup but after that I can see this team being TOP 5 honestly. As for NIP, I think the faster they make another change the better for them, I don't see life and potential in this lineup.

wtf why kick jackz, such an immediate impact, what a force he was it would be funny but understandable if niko gets kicked for kenny but i think they will share awp duties with amanek and niko and then can be top 5 team

I couldnt watch the game, how did niko do on awp? It seems it wasnt all that good from the ratings etc, but stats could sometimes be missleading.

Stats really are misleading in this case. Niko was bad yes, but he was also insanely unluko pretty often. He holds an angle for a period of time, moves and then someone peeks. On Mirage he was awping from con a lot but rez always rushed cat. Nobody with an iq over 10 rushes mid like that. Really weird pushes caught Niko off guard all the time, 100% he was tilting after the 3rd or 4th time. I'd be tilting too if I was him tbh... Niko is putting way too much pressure on his shoulders and it shows. He's trying to be a top 3 player in the world so desperately atm but all he needs to do is to play his own game to achieve that but with all that pressure he will fail 110%

stop using NiKo as awpers lol. those jack cant entry well. if you have gold entry fragger why takes him as awpers? change it with some tier 1 danish awpers or nivera for the sake.

NiKo was awful on the AWP not gonna lie. JaCkz with a lot of sick entries and holds, was a pleasure to see him back! Also NiKo baited so much as T with the AWP, isn't he supposed to be a star player / agressive lurker ? He was always doing weird shit on T, he felt out of tempo with the rest.
