ESL Pro League Season 13Vitality overcome FaZe as ZywOo puts on a masterclass
The young star was the difference-maker for his team with a 1.53 rating in Vitality's opening ESL Pro League Season 13 series.
The first day of ESL Pro League Season 13 Group B action was concluded with Vitality taking a win over FaZe in a highlight-heavy game. The Frenchmen had managed just one victory from their last seven series played going into the match, but came out on top by winning Dust2 and Overpass after an opening loss on Mirage.
Today's match was the first one Vitality played since putting the six-man roster behind them and reintroducing Kévin "misutaaa" Rabier as a permanent member of the team. The 18-year-old was the second-best performer for his side after Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut, averaging a 1.07 rating.
In an interview on the Pro League broadcast, Richard "shox" Papillon stressed that Nabil "Nivera" Benrlitom stepping down was a move "for the future of Vitality", with the Major being their main focus.
Marcelo "coldzera" David and Håvard "rain" Nygaard were tearing up Vitality on the T-side of Mirage, posting 17 and 16 kills respectively as FaZe ran up a formidable 11-4 lead on their map pick. Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken ensured the momentum stayed firmly with the European mixture after the switch by picking up an ace in the pistol and a quad kill in the following round, putting the map to bed in no time, 16-5.
With 1v5 ace clutch in the pistol, ZywOo revived the French team after a blowout opening map, powering his side to a 9-1 advantage. However, FaZe squeezed out the final rounds of the half, making it a contest again at 10-5 before the switch. With Helvijs "broky" Saukants powering up, FaZe were looking like to get back into the game, but after they reached 10 rounds, key triples from Cédric "RpK" Guipouy and ZywOo concluded the map, 16-10.
FaZe was looking better as the action moved to Overpass, earning a 6-1 advantage as they picked apart the Frenchmen's approaches. Then, Vitality slowed down the tempo and started finding success with B hits, as well as crucial clutches from shox and ZywOo (8-7 half). Dan "apEX" Madesclaire's men pushed forward in the second half to reaching match point in no time, but had some issues before eventually closing it out 16-12.
