Cloud9 defeat TeamOne to secure first ESL Pro League victory
Cloud9 won the series with a dominant third-map performance on Nuke.
Cloud9 and TeamOne, the two 0-2 teams in Group C, played each other in the third ESL Pro League match day to try and regain footing in the competition, with the former coming out ahead 2-1 in a three-map series that spanned across Train (16-13), Overpass (11-16) and Nuke (16-5).
"Losing Overpass was kind of a blow and last time we played on Nuke we were way too scared, so this time we came out swinging," Patrick "es3tag" Hansen said in the post-match interview, "we switched up the game plan a bit because we knew how [TeamOne] played and we just took it to them. I think ALEX was disrespecting them in yard, pushing all of the time, and they weren’t really countering it. It gave us a lot of room, so we kind of knew what they were doing all of the time and they were just running into a brick wall."
Chris "Elmapuddy" Tebbit's men have given themselves a lifeline in the tournament after wining the chaotic match against TeamOne, as they have already gone up against the top-ranked teams in the group, Natus Vincere and Gambit, while TeamOne are on the verge of elimination — although not yet mathematically out of the running — and still have to face the two CIS squads.

The series kicked off on Train, TeamOne’s map pick, and although the start was chaotic, with four back-and-forth rounds setting a 2-2 scoreline on the board, it was finally the European-American squad that stabilized on the defense, taking a large 11-4 lead at the half. The Brazilian squad did their best to bridge the gap, making a game of it all the way to the end on the defense, but finally fell short, 13-16.
TeamOne stole the second round after losing pistols on Overpass, going on a nine round streak on the CT side before Cloud9 could get back on the board in a 12-3 half. The second half started with both teams trading rounds once again, with Alex "ALEX" McMeekin and company trying to mount a comeback, but as TeamOne did on Train, Cloud9 fell short on Overpass, 11-16.
The pattern continued on Nuke as the team that won the pistol round, TeamOne, couldn’t follow it up, with Ricky "floppy" Kemery mowing down all five attackers with his MP9 in the second round. After a shaky start the CTs took a 12-3 lead half thanks to aggressive outer control by ALEX. Four back-and-forth rounds kicked off the last half of the series in a map in which Erick "Xeppaa" Bach excelled hitting a 1.92 rating as his team secured the victory, 16-5.
