FaZe knock out FURIA in IEM Summer closed qualifier

The Brazilians leave the tournament without a single map win.

FaZe have eliminated FURIA from the IEM Summer 2021 Closed Qualifier following a 2-0 win in the first round of the lower bracket (Nuke 16-8, Inferno 16-10). The international team, who bounced back from a disappointing 0-2 loss to OG in the opening round, will continue their lower bracket run on Wednesday against the losing side of FunPlus Phoenix vs. G2.

IEM Summer 2021 is the second international tournament that FURIA will miss in June after failing to qualify for the BLAST Premier Spring Final. The Brazilians, who had suffered a 2-0 loss to Movistar Riders on Monday, will still play one more tournament in Europe, DreamHack Masters Spring, before returning to North America for cs_summit 8, a Regional Major Ranking (RMR) competition).

The series started on FaZe's map pick of Nuke, where they carried a narrow one-round lead to the break. The second half turned out to be a one-way street as FaZe kept the Terrorists at bay with a resolute defensive display, with Paytyn "⁠junior⁠" Johnson failing to find a single kill in the half.

Inferno was up next, and FURIA made only little improvements from the previous map. FaZe were in control from the offset and reached map point at 15-3 on the back of a dominant CT display. The Brazilians still attempted to respond and put some rounds together, but their comeback hopes were shattered in the 26th round, when Helvijs "⁠broky⁠" Saukants secured the map for his team with a quad-kill in the B site.

It's Typical for online unsocialised CSGO new generation ego players without school.. They won't be better than older players that's sure, but someone need to say it to them; FURIA trully sucks with their pug FPL style

VINI is one of the most inconsistent players I've seen aside from apEX. His ceiling is insane, but it's a 30/60 that you'll see it.

Language is the problem for Furia. When they all spoke Portuguese, it was all fast and effective but individually they are not the best and are easily bested by FaZe players each of whom aside from karrigan and coldzera is a mad fragger. Lastly, Junior has looked ... slow in this match. Maybe he was busy looking at the radar all the time or woke up late, dunno. He was bested so many times it's just ridiculous.

Good to see Broky playing out of his mind but FURIA need to do something with Junior, he has no impact at all for FURIA and that is especially poor for a primary AWP player. Granted, Broky did an amazing job of shutting him down but 18 kills in two maps is abysmal. It's either a language problem, Junior is underperforming or both.

He looks confused constantly. You can see how uncomfortable he is, and I can't tell if it's nerves or communication. I'm not saying he's amazing, but I think you'd see better performance on a primary English speaking team.

That is somewhat true. They should just let him play like he used too or knows how. They picked him up because he’s a good young aggressive awper but instead of having him play like he was picked up for, they have him instead play passive.

I think FURIA needs to kick Junior ASAP. Im not bashing him , but it would bet the best interest of both parts if this happen. He simply don’t fit FURIA playstyle. They don’t play around their awper like most teams do, they play around arT. This makes their awper life way harder, since they have to play without a support and holding off angles too many times. Also, they need a guy who knows exactly the right time to be aggressive and trade arT’s deaths when he advances for information. That role is naturally hard to fill, then you add the fact that they’re probably struggling with comms (it takes very much time to start thinking in english when you learn to speak), and the overall environment doesn’t make any easier.

Gotta agree with junior's role in Furia not fitting him at all and they should probably let him go. For primary AWP he is having way too low of an impact, bringing down with him the res tof the squad.

The main problem is that Junior lost all fast challenges besides some lost awp shots. He seemed slower than every other Faze guy. He is not feeling very well the way he is playing and the way he could fit on Furia's style. It is a miracle what Furia was doing playing with minus one player. It is a time where the level is VERY high on top 30 teams and if your not on your best day, you'll lose.
