OG, FPX qualify for IEM Summer 2021

Four teams remain alive in the closed qualifier with one more spot at IEM Summer up for grabs.

OG and FunPlus Phoenix have become the two first teams to punch tickets to IEM Summer 2021 through the closed qualifier. OG did so by taking on Trident in the first stage and FaZe in their second stage opening match before going up against Movistar Riders, claiming all three series with 2-0 scorelines, while FunPlus Phoenix had to beat SKADE in the first stage of the closed qualifier before defeating BIG and G2.

Movistar Riders tripped up in the final hurdle as the only team left alive coming from the open qualifier in the first semi-final, as Owen "⁠smooya⁠" Butterfield and company trailed early on in their map pick, Overpass, which OG closed out without much fuss 16-5. Inferno started off in similar fashion, with OG taking a 10-5 lead on the attacking side, but this time around the squad led by Aleksi "⁠Aleksib⁠" Virolainen had to stave off a very real comeback attempt that took the map all the way to the very last round, which ended with the favorites closing the series out 16-14.

FunPlus Phoenix came out guns blazing in the second semi-final of the day, taking a 7-1 lead on the attacking side of Train, their map pick, on the way to a 16-6 victory. G2 then one-upped FunPlus Phoenix on Mirage with a 10-1 lead on the terrorist side as they rushed through their pick to secure a 16-3 victory, pushing the series into a decider map. Unlike the previous maps, FunPlus Phoenix and G2 kept it as close as can be on Inferno, with the former leading 8-7 after their CT side. Jesse "⁠zehN⁠" Linjala and company then charged ahead in a final effort on the terrorist side to secure the series 16-11 and claim their place at IEM Summer.

The two lower bracket semi-finals, pitting MOUZ and Movistar Riders on one side and FaZe and G2 on the other, will kick off the final day of play on Wednesday. The two winning teams will then play the qualifier's last match, the lower bracket final, which will grant the winner the final spot at IEM Summer 2021.

I agree, the whole roster is very likable. I only like styko more than the rest because of his vlogs and his hltv confirmed appearance where I thought he spoke very well

apparently zehn at least used to be quite annoying person from what I have heard here and seen some screenshots, but well so was s1mple. But like s1mple said when people asked how he has changed so much: "life happened", so maybe zehn has grown up also. It's a sign of a decent person that you can learn from you mistakes and grow, not get stuck with some stupid mentality like "I was annoying turd when I was teen, so this is who I am and I will embrace it, so I shall be annoying turd for the rest of my life". But Styko, man I have always felt bad for him, he really seems like good person.

Its kinda subjective, i remember at the berlin minor, cr4zy and north were playing and the north players, not just valde, were being very aggresive and rude with theit shouting (im all for bming, but this looked to me like it was something personal) later i watched some interviews with our guys, they were all weirded out by what they did, and said that gave them motivation to eventually beat them (they lost the first game) and kick them out of the minor

They were probably very happy and hyped to qualify to majors so I unserstand that but it’s almost 2 years ago and valde probably went with his former teammates with the shouting. Not saying that you should like him or anything but just look at him he’s such a happy and positive guy mens))

Never been a hater, but emi -15. It just seems like there might be same problem there was with krystal, but lets hope he will perform better personally in the future. As an igl he seems go be a good fit!

Same problem as with krystal ?? First tournament with 7 days of prac and no official match in 8 months and he beats astralis (best team ever)heroic north etc... and gets extreamly close to beating mouse. Second time he comes in again fiew days of prac and beat skade (18 win streak) BIG and G2. I dont even have to tell you what would happen if krystal was in Emi's shoes. So U really are hater and looking at this subjective not objective. Whatever who cares Emi making the results and as Ibra said i need new hater,the old become my fans B)))))

OG is looking so much better with flamez and niko additions. Would be funny though if smooya got his personality sorted and went over to OG to replace mantuu. Smooya outperformed mantuu on the awp despite not having a top tier IGL on his team to "manage" him and much worse teammates in general. A criminal waste of true tier 1 awp talent. To be fair mantuu does his damage and frags even when potatoing some key rounds, but the awper question will become bigger once OG becomes top10 team and start playing only against tier 1 teams again.

smooya frags so much on MR because he is given a lot of room by the other 4 players on the team. On OG he would be surrounded by much more individually capable players, and as such wouldn't be granted the resources he is now. mantuu is still able to shine as one of OG's top 2 players despite the players surrounding him; I am not sure if smooya would be able to do this, although he is definitely not playing in a team matching his own skill level.

Every big tournament should be with qualifications without invites. We need to see who's playing better at the moment and I believe it's more fair way
