Heroic to reinstate HUNDEN as coach

The 29-year-old will be back at his old post in the Danish team after his ESIC ban runs out on April 30.

HEROIC is set to reinstate Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen as the team's coach on April 30, the organization has announced. His first event back behind the Danish lineup will be DreamHack Masters Spring, should the Casper "cadiaN" Møller-led side survive the first two days of the group stage, in which they will first meet paiN on Thursday at approximately 15:50 .

The 29-year-old has spent the last eight months suspended from his coaching position after he received a ban from ESIC member events in September 2020 for exploiting the infamous coaching bug alongside 36 other coaches. As part of a concession process, HUNDEN's original ten-month ban was reduced to eight months for his assistance with the investigation into the abuse of the bug. He was also additionally handed a ban from Valve-sanctioned events by the developers, lasting for the next five Majors.

"Hunden is our boy. We have said that before and we will keep on saying it. He contributes enormously to not only Heroic but to the entire Counter-Strike scene," Erik Askered, HEROIC's CGO, has stated. "We all know that Nicolai made a big mistake which does not represent what Heroic stands for. However, he has not only accepted and endured his punishment, he has also worked hard to improve Counter-Strike so mistakes like this will not happen again."

HUNDEN returns to the coaching role with the aim to bring HEROIC to the No. 1 position, shortly after the team reached second place in HLTV.org's World Ranking following their title-winning campaign at ESL Pro League Season 13 and a top-four finish in the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown with two new members, Rasmus "sjuush" Beck and Ismail "refrezh" Ali.

"It has been tough sitting on the sidelines for eight months and not participating in the matches," HUNDEN said in a statement. "I have spent the time refining my skills in the analysis part of the game but there is no doubt that it will take some time to find the rhythm again."

"Heroic aims to be #1 in the world and we have to continue to work on the positive culture that the team has worked on in the last 8 months."

HEROIC's lineup will look as follows starting April 30:

Denmark Martin "stavn" Lund
Denmark Casper "cadiaN" Møller
Denmark René "TeSeS" Madsen
Denmark Ismail "refrezh" Ali
Denmark Rasmus "sjuush" Beck

Denmark Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen (coach)

tbh morally shit move. he did something wrong and heroic and many other orgs tricked the system by just moving him to the sidelines for a while. i think those orgs should be punished as well.

ehh i wouldn't call that "tricking the system" they specifically banned them form coaching during the matches because anything else is just silly in the online era

yeah but these punishment was basically useless during the online era, i'm sure he's always been behind their backs between maps etc. and IIRC he also was on the photo heroic took for twitter after they won EPL. for me this simply is punishment evasion and should be treated accordingly

ESIC simply allowed banned coaches to be behind the scene all parties were aware of that from the beginning if org is willing to damage their reputation then they can go for it so i disagree on the evasion part also it's not that useless of a punishment many coaches simply IGL for the teams during online matches. and not having a coach during the match is way worse than not having him behind the scenes (u can't control it anyway)

i partly agree, you're right that ESIC has not banned coaches to be involved at all, ESIC should've been more strict there. sadly most people probably dont care about it, so the reputation of the orgs wasnt really damaged i still think its morally wrong. i dont wanna take anything away from heroics achievements but personally i think this is a very scummy move and it will surely prevent me from cheering for them and i honestly hope i'm not the only one

I am sure he hasn't. I wonder what morale's you live you life by suggesting the whole Heroric team has been cheating and not adhering to the ban. I have every confidence in that they have not been doing what you suggest. What Hunden did was wrong, but you're making it into a lot more than it was. It was investigated and it is not like he massively exploited the loophole or anything.

i'm not suggesting the whole team has been cheating in that sense, (although its unlikely that the players did not know he abused the coaching bug IMO). having hunden still in their staff for the whole time & bringing him back now is obviously allowed and not cheating, i still think its a scummy thing to do because its basically a statement that you dont care about ESICs verdict or the fact that he cheated, even if it was only once. Heroic isnt the only org that does this. i just think all of those orgs should be criticised more harshly

You did more than suggest, here is what you wrote "...i'm sure he's always been behind their backs between maps etc. ". Explain how that is not suggesting the team has been engaged in disregarding the ban? As for not being okay to bring him back - are you suggesting than while his ban is going to expire somehow he is still to be punished? If so then you really should be attacking those that assigned the punishment, not those punished ie. Hunden and indirectly Heroric. If we are to still punish people after they have done their punishment, then what sort of world is that!? I think you need to consider the crime and the circumstances, it seems to me you are calling for something way out of proportion. It was a minor think, but it seems you want a permanent Berufsverbot. You need to remember that for a pro coach the CS think is a career not just a past time.

Well as far as I remember he’s officially been their analyst during his coaching ban so if remember that correctly he’s definitely been behind their backs whenever possible. My point is that this wasn’t really a punishment because a lot of orgs found ways to just evade it, and yes you‘re right, those that assigned the punishment are at fault for that. Officially those orgs did nothing wrong but the way they are handling this situation should still damage their reputation IMO

+1 100% agree on this shit, punishment should have been sever but these Orgs have no moral values just react to backlash if faced, which Danish fans did not in this case, in fact they were happy that he could still work with the players.

Kinda see your point but the danish fans should question the org's moral values. Even mousesports wasn't forced to remove their coach but they did what was morally right, and should have been followed by everyone.

Well, from what I understand Hunden assisted in working out what was really up so it seems to me that while he did wrong, then he did what he could to make things right in helping for a full understanding of the exploit. Besides I have full confidence in that the team as a whole would adhere completely to the rules of the punishment given to Hunden, so to me that is good enough.

Don't be naive, all of these teams cheated through their coaches and the players fucking knew. Valve had to make a choice to save their eSports scene or ban the coaches as scapegoats. If they ban the talent and the orgs the game effectively gets nuked. Do the math.

Yeah I understand that valve wasn’t able to permanently ban 20 coaches without damaging the scene but still those coaches did basically not face any punishment at all because they were just moved to analyst positions for a few months and are now able to return

I think you missed my point here - the coaches don't even matter, they are the least concern and the most expendable - that's why they were used as scapegoats with this whole scandal. But yes, at the end they weren't really punished regardless. In reality, the players and the orgs are just as guilty as the coaches. The players 100% knew that the coaches were cheating (as they were feeding them the information), and the orgs "should have" known - at the end of the day it is their responsibility to police their players. Valve just slid this whole thing under the rug by banning the coaches as the bad guys when everyone is guilty here.

LOL - so funny when people used terms like "100%" and "in reality" on something when they absolutely are just speculating. It is like you're trying to sell something and want to convince us by claiming knowledge you don't have. In no way can you say anything on what the players knew, you can not even say what coaches used the information the found for- so don't try and put something on the players or the orgs for that matter. If you had written that you imagine players and orgs must have known or something to that effect, the your opinions would be worth debating. With stating opinions as facts that just makes it BS.

Very ignorant comment. Why else would they take the risk then? People cheat to win not lose. Do you honestly think the coaches didn't relay the information to the players? What would be the point? Coaches don't play 5v5 cs guy... You can bury your head in the sand all you want, but all of these teams cheated man. It's really not hard to put together the pieces together here. Also, this was completely widespread, almost EVERY SINGLE team got caught doing this. If you honestly believe the coaches kept this to themselves when half of these guys live in gaming houses with their players you are just as naive as everyone else in this thread.

So now it is coaches and not just Hunden? I pity you because it seems clear you live in a world where by default people is evil and wanting to cheat, however there is a different world also and happily I am living in it. I am living in a nation with close to zero corruption, low crime and people can trust each other, in fact people can even trust strangers and guess what - even strangers will do good by you. Those coaches that looked where they shouldn't have, you have zero way of knowing what they did with what they saw. Yes, they may have said to their team that they could see the other team freely and that therefore they should do A instead of B. However they may also have kept this to them self, just giving orders/suggestions to their team without saying why. They may even have just abused the game without really doing much at all, except just to see if their analysis of the opponents was good or not. This thread is about Hunden and Heroric. I am not commenting on other coaches, those I don't know of and I am not pretending to know how those teams work. Heroric is not living in a game house, they all reside locally so why should they, not that I can see it mattering regarding the issue in question as I assume those living in gaming houses still have privacy.

so your logic is that when a player uses 3rd party software to cheat he deserves a permanent VAC and you can absolutely shit on him (like f0rsaken) but when a Coach that is basically sitting behind the players abuses a bug within the game to wallhack for his player (doesn't matter if they knew or not) he should be released after a year or so and is now being praised as GOD HUNDEN by the community again? I mean... talking about two faced Toledos huh'?

You wrote a comment saying I wrote something about somebody using 3rf party software and what, which I clearly have not. Then when I called you out on it, instead an "oops, sorry or something" you come up with something even more ridiculous writing "just a preemptive message to you or others who might think like that.". If you can not see that was stupid, then I gotta say you're simply a waste of space.
