Astralis edge out DBL PONEY in Flashpoint 3

The Danes took the victory without dropping a map, but were pushed to their limits on both Vertigo and Nuke.

Astralis secured their second 2-0 victory in Flashpoint 3, beating DBL PONEY to advance to the upper bracket semi-final of the Regional Major Ranking tournament. After sending OG and DBL PONEY to the lower bracket, Astralis will face the winner of BIG - MOUZ.

A good effort from DBL PONEY — the orgless team that broke into the top 30 on Monday — can't go unnoticed, though, as Alexandre "⁠bodyy⁠" Pianaro's squad managed a valiant comeback on the defensive side of Vertigo and went blow for blow on Nuke to keep Lukas "⁠gla1ve⁠" Rossander's team on their toes.

An inspired Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif spearheaded his team in the series, building on the form he showed in their last outing at DreamHack Masters Spring, while Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt — still contracted to OG —, topped the scoreboard for the Frenchmen.

Magisk has averaged a 1.19 rating across four maps in Flashpoint 3

Lucas "⁠Bubzkji⁠" Andersen and Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen were on a roll as the series took off on Vertigo, going on to post 17 and 18 kills respectively, and just four deaths, as the Danes racked up a 13-2 lead on the defense. An unlikely comeback followed as DBL PONEY won nine of the following 10 rounds, with a pistol retake proving pivotal. NBK- topped the charts on CT as his team narrowed the lead down to just two rounds (15-13), but Astralis managed to pull it across the line after all.

The second map, Nuke, was all about momentum. DBL PONEY had the upper hand early into the map, chaining seven dominant rounds together before Magisk came online. The rifler got multikill after multikill, including an anti-eco ace, to propel Astralis back into the lead before the switch. The Frenchmen got the wind back into their sails following bodyy's quad kill (9-10) chaining six in a row to get ahead again (13-10=. However, just like on Vertigo, the more experienced side came out on top to claim the victory, 16-13 for Astralis.

I expected 2-1 Astralis, with Astralis smashing them on their pick, DBL having a solid game on theirs and a fairly contested 3rd map. Ast are such a ? atm for me, and DBL in terms of skill on paper, I would say are actually better than Astralis at their peak.

from both game of FP3, they had to give AWP to Magisk, the only reason to make dupreeh AWPer is he will retire soon so Astralis can pick one good Danish AWPer the reasons: 1. Magisk is Astralis future IGL and they had vision the IGL is the one with AWPer (saw in one of gla1ve and dev1ice interview about dream team) 2. Magisk already AWPing in train because of his position in that map. He didn't pick AWP now because he is the Anchor (with the greatest Xyp9x) and Bubzkji can take Anchor role with his rifling ability 3. Magisk ability to AWPing is on par with dupreeh, but dupreeh is more aggressive and sometimes dupreeh's reflex can't cope with his aggressiveness 4. dupreeh really good when using AWP for fast peek kill, but AWP usage in Astralis before is to secure big space in map. moreover, rifle is a better weapon to fast peek 5. dupreeh entry still the best and Magisk performance in Anchor slowly decrease. easy fix to Magisk form is change the weapon 6. Bubzkji can pick the AWP too, but Magisk is more familiar with Astralis style and AWPer had to work in certain teamplay with others because of its one shot kill. gla1ve already pick AWP before but his value more in information gathering and game sense that really need rifle than AWP one thing i spot in Astralis play is AUG became a goto CT weapon because it has similar damage (to armored enemy) and spray pattern of AK. both RPM is 600 and damage to kevlar 27 for AK and 28 for AUG
