Gambit overrun Spirit; Akuma upset Virtus.pro to continue EPIC League CIS upper bracket run

Gambit are set to face the underdogs Akuma in the upper bracket final of the CIS Regional Major Ranking (RMR) tournament.

Two one-sided matches took place in the upper bracket semi-final of EPIC League CIS on Thursday. In the first one, Gambit brushed aside Spirit who were flawless in the tournament until that point (10-0 map record), while the second one saw Akuma claim their second massive scalp - taking down Virtus.pro just two days after sweeping Natus Vincere.

Gambit will be hoping they can stop the team that 2-0'd NAVI and VP

Gambit's victory over Spirit was a dominant one, 16-6 on their opponents' pick Dust2 and 16-2 on their pick of Train, seeing them get revenge for the group stage defeat they suffered to Leonid "⁠chopper⁠" Vishnyakov and co.

The team ranked No. 1 in the world started the event slow, losing both to Spirit and Natus Vincere in the group stage, but a resounding playoff victory puts them back on the course to defend the title of the best team in the world. The Vladislav "⁠nafany⁠" Gorshkov-led squad has now secured at minimum a top-3 finish at the tournament and will be facing Akuma for a place in the grand final.

The lowest-ranked team in the playoffs of EPIC League CIS, Akuma (No. 47 in the world), continued their incredible upper bracket run by breezing past Virtus.pro. Dzhami "⁠Jame⁠" Ali's team couldn't match up to the dark horses of the event, managing just 15 rounds for the series as the all-Ukrainian squad ran rampant. On Mirage, AWPer Dmytro "⁠SENSEi⁠" Shvorak led the fragging with a 1.40 rating, while Sergiy "⁠DemQQ⁠" Demchenko hit an even higher level on Dust2, averaging a 1.74 rating alongside 117.1 ADR.

The upper-bracket final match will see the still-orgless Akuma and Gambit face off for the second time in the event, with the first match going the way of the Russian team (Mirage 25-23, Vertigo 16-4). On the other hand, the lower bracket will be cutthroat as Virtus.pro are fighting for survival against Entropiq while Spirit face off against Natus Vincere.

SENSEi, Psycho and Sergiz are very experienced CS players. They start to play it in 2008-2010. Competed in small CS 1.6 tourneys till 2014 then switched to CSGO. They need a time and will win MAJOR.

These guys from Akuma are very experienced. They are very tough shooters and what is happening now is a real sensation on the CIS scene, the more interesting it is to find out who will be stronger than Gambit or these demons, both teams are crazy shooters!

If you turn on the logic and watch the old interviews of Navi where they said that they did not grow competitors in their region and did not play training games with the CIS. The CIS is currently one of the strongest regions in CS, if not the strongest. Because of the ping, the CIS is playing training matches with each other, and you can actually see this progress.

Gambit is still not showing the level of teamplay they had before I feel like, but individually it's looking good for them. Spirit is a great team, TOP 10 in my eyes, honestly I expected an upset here. Akuma is just insane, those upsets already put them in like TOP 20 imo. SANJI just has to go for VP, I know he is the support and all, but he is just not performing at all.
