LDLC win ENC Global Playoffs Spring to qualify for IEM Cologne Play-in; Sprout advance to IEM Summer

The French team made the choice to participate in the Cologne precursor as opposed to IEM Summer.

LDLC have qualified for the IEM Cologne Play-in after taking down Sprout 3-1 in the ESL National Championship Global Spring Playoffs, which also had a place at IEM Summer up for grabs. The French side had the option to participate in either event after Timo "Spiidi" Richter & company’s had already qualified for the German tournament with their win in ESL Meisterschaft Spring earlier in May, with Ali "hAdji" Haïnouss's side choosing the Cologne Play-in.

As a result of their second-place finish in the National Championship Global Playoffs and a confirmed spot in IEM Cologne Play-in, Sprout will progress to the $250,000 IEM Summer, which will commence on June 3.

hAdji's consistency and Keoz's impact got LDLC over the line

The best-of-five contest saw LDLC get off to a flying start in the series by locking down Inferno 16-13 before turning around a 10-14 deficit on Dust2, winning in double overtime (20-22) thanks to a 1.42-rated performance from Nicolas "Keoz" Dgus.

Sprout replied with a monstrous 13-2 start on Nuke and went on to close out their first map victory 16-10 after an attempted comeback from their opponents, but the Germans lost out on Mirage (19-16) following yet another standout showing from Keoz.

@Voltix This is not entirely correct. Sprout already has a cologne spot, so the outcome would’ve been the same if LDLC lost, the players had no Choice

ldlc too scared to go to the better tournament? beacuse they are not going through play in

IEM Cologne Play-in is on LAN, and it's a huge tournament. They will go through play-in, there are a lot of weak teams there and half of the teams go through the play-ins to IEM Cologne. IEM Summer on the other hand is a forgettable tournament where they will face gambit in the upper -bracket. The choice was too easy honestly

Not really, you are lower tier team and you'll play vs teams that wanna qualify through play-in. And the tournament play less then IEM SUMMER and you will play on the major stage at the summer, where teams usually plays soft, cause its summer and the tournament pays you better! Just my opinion, and I think for the org LDLC would be better playing IEM SUMMER

But they will meet device in person at Cologne with NiP play-in and complexity, EG, Spirit. It will be a good experience on lan for LDLC and they can prepare for this event.

They had no choice, the article is misleading. Sprout is already qualified for cologne so LDLC would’ve gotten the cologne invite in any case and sprout would’ve gotten the IEM summer invite in any case This bo5 did not matter

Yeah but I think that ESL decided which Team will get which spot even before the final. IT think that denis wrote that in twitter and Sprout even said after the match against EC Brugge that they are qualified for IEM Summer so the final was absolutely useless

So Sprout qualified for Cologne because the winner from the german Meisterschaft gets a spot in the Cologne play-in and also an plays in the global spring tournament for either a spot for Cologne or IEM Summer. But because Sprout already qualified for Cologne esl (or someone else) decided even before the final which team will get which spot. So it was absolutely meaningless who will win the final because the players had no choice to decide and in the end they played for like 20 points

So fucking unfair, wether LDLC were to lose, they only get to play in 1 event while sprout regardless of winning or losing, already has one event qualifed for, right here sprout won out of the 2. They can play moe events and for these teams IEM summer seems more better to chose because you start in the main event, not the playins

But IEM summer "only" have 250k$ of prize pool whereas Cologne Play-In give the oppotunity (8 places on 16 team in the tournament) to play a 972k$ event

Lambert on a T1 event, sounds insane. Sprout is making to many stupid mistakes to be a solid team at any level, they will always be inconsistent.
