Gambit beat Complexity to book upper bracket final spot in BLAST Premier Spring Final

The CIS high-fliers march on in the $425,000 tournament with a convincing victory.

"We've got to prove that we can beat them; we've been so close in the past," Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke said in the pre-match interview. "Now it's time to f--king beat them."

Like two weeks ago, in the IEM Summer Group A lower bracket final, Complexity came close but couldn't get over the line. This time around, they were defeated in two close maps by Gambit, who are through to Saturday's upper bracket final against the winner of BIG vs. Natus Vincere.

It was yet another case of so close yet so far for Complexity, whose leads in both maps always seemed fragile. Like in the previous series, they couldn't overcome the little mistakes that a team like Gambit ruthlessly punishes. Even when they were behind, the CIS side seemed to be one step ahead.

Gambit dispatched Complexity in two maps

Gambit came out the brighter of the two sides, taking a 4-0 lead on the T side of their map pick of Mirage. Complexity responded with little more than a few Desert Eagles and put some rounds together to level the score, before Gambit ended the half on a high with a four-round streak.

Things looked bright for Complexity as the second half got underway. They seized control of the game and pushed Gambit's players right up against the ropes, immediately trading back a round won by the CIS team. But then Vladislav "nafany" Gorshkov pulled a rabbit out of the hat with a trio of frags in an eco round to charge the course of the map. With the momentum generated, Gambit regained their composure and took control of proceedings, keeping their beleaguered opponents in check for a dominant 6-0 run.

k0nfig lit up the server in the first half of Vertigo, leading his team's efforts in a 9-6 half with a 20-8 score and a 128 ADR. It was an impressive CT showing from Complexity, but they still had to be kicking themselves after the end of the half for letting their foot off the gas for a while after a 6-0 start.

Gambit restored parity after winning the opening three rounds of the half, but their momentum was halted in the first gun round as Justin "jks" Savage pulled off an ace clutch. However, the IEM Summer champions quickly regained their footing and kept their opponents at bay, weathering a very late comeback attempt to secure the map and put the series to rest.

Last 2 matches Navi won without losing a map. That said, Gambit need to ban D2. They've played it in 4 series and never won (last time they won D2 vs Navi was a year ago). So yeah, Navi should win, but they're due for a loss. Doubt this'll be Astralis vs Liquid levels of mental block.

I wasn't saying it was optimal, but that they statistically aren't any worse off playing Nuke as they can't seem to win D2 vs Navi. They're competitive on nearly all other maps.

They can't ban D2, cause Navi will pick Nuke, that Gambit never played

#37 So we are clear it's mostly an observation that they are at a huge disadvantage if they consistently can't win D2. All this means is they have 2 maps they sacrifice no matter what.

At least they had pretty close matches vs NaVi on D2 (16-14, 16-12), while Nuke is their permaban and it's also 2nd (if not 1st) NaVi's best map

It's basically Navi's best map when s1mple shows up on CT. Still, they need to focus on what to change for Navi or they're routinely going to be 0-1 in map choices.

they've had the same "insta-win" vs NaVi on overpass too

Navi beat them 16-7 on it the last time they played it. Gambit are strong on Overpass vs Navi, but it's not a 100% win-rate. Navi have won it twice (something like 5 - 2 in favor of Gambit). Navi haven't beaten Gambit on Mirage, but Navi aren't super amazing on Mirage. The games have been close, however.

I think they're 50/50 on Mirage But games on Dust were very close, actually. Anyway, NaVi's Dust2 isn't only Gambit's problem, NaVi are probably the best team in the world there and they pick it every time they have a chance. Gambit just need to work on their Dust2 instead of looking for a solution in their map pool, because giving NaVi their Nuke is indeed a 0-1 start

They needed it. It's fortunate they won it, since their Ancient pick tremendously backfired. I'm happy to see Gambit get over that hurdle though. Navi blow hot and cold so much it's kind of crazy. At the end of the day Gambit are the more complete team, so hopefully moving forward they don't have any more issues with D2 and Navi. Like I said, this wasn't a case of Astralis vs. Liquid. Kind of a side note: I know that Boombl4 is their shot caller, but his yolo, no-brain approach to his individual game drives me absolutely insane.

it doesnt matters , its probably why he'll never be one of the best riflers cuz he got an aggressive attitude, while aggression aint bad but k0nfig only showcases negative aggression, he's been like this since years and we cant do nothing about it

Gambit looks like they may have struggled a bit to beat Complexity with 2 close wins. They're still doing great nonetheless.
