The 26-year-old is looking forward to a "fresh start" after the player break.

Sprout have announced that Denis "⁠denis⁠" Howell has been removed from the starting lineup with immediate effect. The decision follows a disappointing tournament season that almost saw the German team relegated from ESEA Premier.

"After a rather successful ending of the latter half of 2020 together with snatchie and dycha, everything went downhill and we had a horrible season in 2021 with our German lineup with some glimmers of hope, but we couldn’t quite make it." denis told HLTV.org. "Thus our coach, enkay J, decided that they want to try something new and want a fresh start after the summer break."

denis' second stint with Sprout is coming to an end

HLTV.org reported on Saturday that Sprout were considering removing denis and embarking on a new international adventure, just six months after assembling an all-German team.

denis returned to Sprout in September 2019 after a first stint with the team between December 2017 and May 2019. During his time with the German outfit, he attended one Major, ELEAGUE Major Boston, and picked up five ESL Meisterschaft titles.

In 2021, Sprout have been unable to hit the same heights as they did last year, when the team had Paweł "⁠dycha⁠" Dycha and Michał "⁠snatchie⁠" Rudzki in the lineup and was at one point ranked 16th in the world. Underwhelming results have recently caused the team to fall out of the top 30, and they were unable to make up ground in the IEM Cologne Play-in, with losses to BIG and Spirit and a win against TeamOne in between seeing Sprout exit the event in 9th-12th place.

Sprout's active lineup is down to four players following denis' benching:

Slaxz and Kressy both dropped off massively since they joined sprout and I don’t think that’s a coincidence, they deserve another chance and maybe even another one Denis had enough chances, he did a lot for the German scene but at some point it’s time to step back. His performance is literally a meme for years now (the_denis). Maybe he should start coaching talent or play with younger players in a lower team to transfer some knowledge and experience Either way I wish him the best

Still kressys plays are mostly braindead apart from some heroic moments like that AUG spraydown. Denis on the other hand is a good pistol player with good gamesense. And slaxz- doesnt have to proof himself since it was always only him carrying alternate attax other than kressy who hadnt a big impact.
