Xyp9x on future with Astralis: "Now is a great opportunity to see my options; nothing is set in stone"

The 25-year-old has commented on his status with Astralis ahead of the end of his contract at the end of the year.

Andreas "⁠Xyp9x⁠" Højsleth is currently in the process of assessing his options, revealing in an interview with Dexerto that he has had talks with Astralis as well as other teams but that his future still remains undecided ahead of the end of his current deal with the Danish organization, set to expire at the end of 2021.

"I think now is a great opportunity to look around, see my options, and see what the future brings. There have been some talks with Astralis but nothing is set in stone," Xyp9x told Dexerto.

In the interview, he also commented on the possibility of playing for another team after a six-year stint with Astralis, noting that he could see himself "using my skills and experience to build a new successful unit or maybe help an established team take the next steps to the top."

The 25-year-old talked about his future just hours ahead of the start of Astralis' campaign in ESL Pro League Season 14, an event he could end up sitting out following the addition of Philip "⁠Lucky⁠" Ewald to Astralis' roster.

The organization hasn't revealed which lineup they will use in the $750,000 event, or whether they could return to the six-man setup they used when the team still boasted Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz, which saw Lucas "⁠Bubzkji⁠" Andersen in and out of the server depending on which map the team played. Astralis only stated that their new, young AWPer is expected to be "an active part of the roster from day one."

Xyp9x appears to be the most likely candidate to take a step back, as he has been listed as a substitute in Astralis' official lineup for the tournament. The situation should become clearer within the next few hours as the Danish side are set to face Spirit in their first match of Group A in ESL Pro League on Monday at 20:00 .
