Complexity to use a stand-in in ESL Pro League as k0nfig deals with wrist injury*

Niels Christian "⁠NaToSaphiX⁠" Sillassen is expected to step into the European roster again until Kristian "⁠k0nfig⁠" Wienecke recovers.

Update: Complexity have confirmed that k0nfig is currently recovering from a hand injury after a minor accident and that the team will use a stand-in until further notice.

Complexity will be forced to use a stand-in during ESL Pro League Season 14 after k0nfig suffered an injury to his wrist in the lead-up to the event, HLTV.org has learned.

It's unclear for how long k0nfig will be out of action, but until he recovers, NaToSaphiX is expected to step into the roster. He was added to Complexity's official lineup as a substitute only a few days ahead of the start of their campaign in the tournament.

k0nfig's wrist injury will put him out of action for some time

The loss of k0nfig will come as a tough blow to Complexity's chances in ESL Pro League, as the Dane has been one of their best players, averaging a 1.13 rating in 2021. The European side were looking to turn their luck around in the $750,000 competition, having just brought in Patrick "⁠es3tag⁠" Hansen to replace William "⁠RUSH⁠" Wierzba during the off-season with hopes of improving their form following an unremarkable year so far.

The Benjamin "⁠blameF⁠" Bremer-led side have been placed in Group B, which is set to kick off on Saturday, August 21. Complexity will first face the two lowest-ranked teams of the group in FORZE and SINNERS before they take on group favorites G2, Virtus.pro, and finally OG.

NaToSaphiX is no stranger to Complexity, having previously stood in for them in the playoffs of ESL Pro League Season 12 and in IEM New York back in late 2020 as a temporary replacement for Owen "⁠oBo⁠" Schlatter, who had decided to step down.

The 24-year-old also played alongside blameF and the team's new addition, es3tag, in 2019, when the trio briefly represented HEROIC together and most notably placed in the top eight at ESL Pro League Season 9 Finals and at ESL One Cologne 2019. NaToSaphiX is currently teamless after his short stint with GORILLAZ came to an end in July.

I feel exactly the same. Look, I always want to cheer for complexity, the team looks so good, I always want to see their matches, I like the team a lot. But it’s fucking annoying to see the team with those stand-ins. oBo left, and they were playing for around a month with stand-in. Poizon had his injury, and they were playing for around 3 months with stand-in. Then once he came back, they won their group in BLAST, and the beat NaVi and VP in EPL. Now k0nfig is out. Bro it’s so annoying to watch how you aren’t getting 100% out of them, when the have stand-in, since stand-in doesn’t know all their strats, he isn’t playing with them for long, it never works as good, you will never get 100% out of them like this. It’s really hard to cheer for them.
