PGL hits first of two requirements to host Major in Stockholm

Indoor event restrictions are the last obstacle preventing the PGL Major from taking place in Stockholm.

One of the two obstacles that have prevented the PGL Major to be held in Stockholm has been removed this week, as Sweden has eased travel restrictions for esports players coming into the country after adding esports competitions to the list of elite international sports events.

This comes as promising news for the organizers of the event, who revealed at the end of July their two main requirements needed to be able to host the Major in the Swedish capital: for the players and staff to be allowed to enter the country and for indoor restrictions to be lifted so that a large audience can attend.

Indoor event restrictions need to be lifted by September 15

"I am glad that this decision now opens up the possibility of holding international eSports events even during the pandemic. Sweden has long been a leader in eSports, which is a position we must preserve," Sweden's Minister for Culture and Democracy, Amanda Lind, said.

With the first obstacle removed, the restrictions currently in place for indoor events are the only thing preventing the Major to be held in the 16,000-seater Avicii Arena. September 15 is now the second important deadline, by which PGL will decide the final location of the $2 million tournament.

The PGL Major is slated to run from October 23-November 7, featuring 24 teams from all over the world. The participants of the event will be decided via the Regional Major Ranking, whose final standings will be determined when IEM Fall comes to a close on October 10 as the host of the final set of RMR events in all six regions.

its going to be so easy for gambit

They played well being able to reach to the quarter finals of their first LAN event. We'll see if they can maintain it in a setting like a major, adapting to the crowd will not be an easy feat.

Being consitent doesn't matter as long as you don't win where it counts. This is why Faze in 2017/2018 weren't great. they didn't win the games that counted

I think it's a bit of a stretch predicting a Gambit era. Playing in a crowd setting is massively different in comparison to playing online or even in a studio. Teams like Astralis as EliGE mentioned in an interview played off the crowd. They would throw a flash bang to see if the crowd goes wild and if the crowd does then they would know where the last person is hiding. EliGE further mentions on Xyp9x was very aware of this, and that's what made him a clutch master in big events. I think during the online era many teams play with much more confidence relative to a LAN environment. We'll have to see if Gambit can maintain form or will they experience a dip first due to the adaptation they have to go through first.

True, It was their first LAN event as a top1 team, but imo I won't exactly consider it a true LAN environment unfortunately as it had no crowd. I feel like in a big true LAN events as before covid restrictions it will be much harder for them to play and much more pressure especially when they are "new" top tier1 team and need to prove a lot.

I just would like to say at the outset that I absolutely agree with you that it was a "true" LAN event. They were playing in a studio and they weren't playing front of a crowd. And EliGE mentioned it in an interview that playing in front of a crowd changes team tactics and strategies to a certain extent. He mentions how Xyp9x and Astralis by and large was very aware of this and they did use it to their advantage. I think if they played in front of a crowd they would face much more pressure, so I do believe that they still have a lot to prove.

Yes, I remember "theories" saying that Astralis players were using crowd's noise when they check corners or looking through smokes.

Well, n0thing of C9 mentioned how pros by and large would point crosshair through walls and smokes to see how the crowd would react so I wouldn't just say Astralis used to "check corners or looking through smokes". That being said, the point I am trying to make is that Astralis was very aware. The example that EliGE used was that Astralis could throw a flash around the corner and if the crowd reacts to it then they would know someone is there.

I think their level of confidence against Faze especially on the third map on Inferno on IEM Cologne really shows a massive different in terms of LAN vs Online. They seem to lack confidence when playing against Faze and it really impaired their ability to play with proper tactics and strategies. I see your favourite player is b1t. Happy for you that NAVI won Cologne.

Please don't start harrassing others who disagree with you, Gambit's not yet got a reputation of having toxic fans as Na'Vi do, and you could be contributing to people thinking gambit fans are toxic. I hope that Gambit make it far in the major, maybe even lift the trophy, but my heart goes with s1mple, as he's been great for so long, it'd be a shame to not see him win a major, and this major is his best chance thus far.

"However, despite previous reassurances, we were informed two weeks ago that the Swedish Sports Federation had just voted not to accept esports into the sports federation." Go being delusional Swede somewhere else please. Other eurpean countries would invite them with pleasure, as Romania did.

The sports fedaration didnt even know about this major and that voting had nothing to do with the major. Its the Swedish Esports Federation togheter with NIP, and many more that came togheter to put forward a new law to alow Esport athletes to travel to Sweden under Covid Protocols. This wouldnt even be a problem if covid didnt exist. You are probably still just salty after the Anonymo - NIP rematch.
