guerri to play for FURIA in ESL Pro League

Lucas "⁠honda⁠" Cano decided against traveling to Europe to compete in the event after his mother tested positive for COVID-19.

Nicholas "⁠guerri⁠" Nogueira will play in FURIA's matches in ESL Pro League Season 14, the organization has announced. The 31-year-old coach has stepped into the active lineup after honda opted to stay in Brazil due to his mother testing positive for COVID-19.

It had already been a secondary solution for FURIA to use honda in their matches in Pro League. The Brazilian side had hoped to play with their newest member, André "⁠drop⁠" Abreu, who recently replaced honda, but FURIA ended up being denied an emergency transfer for the event.

guerri will play for the first time since late 2019

With guerri being the only other member listed in FURIA's official lineup for the tournament, the team had no choice other than to have the 31-year-old coach play after honda was ruled out. The coach will step onto the server as a player for the first time since late 2019, when he filled in for Henrique "⁠HEN1⁠" Teles at cs_summit 5.

With guerri standing in, the team will be facing tough odds in Group D of ESL Pro League Season 14, which features Gambit, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Liquid, Entropiq, and TeamOne. The group kicks off on Wednesday, with the Brazilians set to face Aleksei "⁠El1an⁠" Gusev and company first at 16:45 .

FURIA's lineup will look as follows in ESL Pro League:

In coL's case, k0nfig hurt his wrist, which means he wasn't able to play. FURIA's situation is more akin to EG. honda chose not to go, like stanislaw, so its on the org for not being able to sort itself with its members, I guess. Sure, the case could be made that both situations also involve medical complications in some sort (stanislaw's mental health and honda supporting his mother), but I dont make the rules hahahaha

coL would’ve applied for stand in rights a lot earlier than FURIA, that’s the main reason they were allowed I assume, not because of the actual nature behind the missing player

Fun, but not true. If you understood Portuguese, you could watch Honda streams. He has a lot of potential and Furia knows it. Honda will not play because of the virus.

Honda will not play ever moving forward because he was already replaced by drop. My guess is he just didn't want to travel to Europe to save the asses of a team that just benched him right before a big tourney. He knows Furia isn't getting out of that group and the $900 he'll make for a 2nd to last finish in Group D is a waste of his time.

Honestly Furia's own fault. They have 2 substitute spots and decided not to use any of them, should've just spent 1 on drop and none of this would have happened. Fnatic, BIG and others managed to assign 2 academy players as subs, and Furia's manager responsible for sending the player list to ESL fucked up big time.
